Motivated to Exercise?

How do you get motivated to exercise? I want to get in shape, and don't have that far to go. I just can't seem to keep it up. I do it for a week and quit. Any advice?

(Sorry about the poll. Couldn't help it. :P If you have any tips other then shut up and do it though, that would be nice)

I say shut up and just doi it :) lol in a nice way haha ... I know what you mean starting off is the hardest and sticking to it. You just hav e to keep telling yourself why you want to work out, keep picturing yourself at your goal weight. I think the only motivation that is strong enough to stick is when you see results its the best feeling ever to look in the mirror and see the reults and the hard work believe me I think twice b4 I put anything unhealthy in my mouth. You need to find out what kind of work out do you like that you can stick to for 45 to 60 min. And do it! Just do it get up and don't think about it, put your ipod on and run or walk fast. Also make goals and try to acheive them this helped me a lot! if I am bored and just don't want to work out at the gym I do 20 min of each machine totals 60 min and goes by fast because I am switching. By the way don't forget the diet you can workout all you want but if you don't eat right you will not see results its cals in and out you need to figure our how many you eat and burn and find your deficit. Stick to it. Good luck and you can do it take it one day at a time

Well I was really overweight and I couldn't keep motivated. Then I started thinking about how I'm 17 and never been on a date or any thing like that. That thought kept me motivated for a while. Then after I started seeing results, that kept me motivated because I knew I was doing good and knew I would look better and be healthier. Make it enjoyable. I love music so I always have music blasting while I work out.

I'd say pick up something fun to do that is exercising. I play basketball. And try setting up goals for yourself. Once you've start try doing a little more the next time. Ex. If I did 10 jumping jacks one night, I would try 15 the next, 20 the next, and so on and so forth. Make it a game or competition with yourself.

Set a reasonable goal, say apound a week.

Make friends with the staff at your gym. So you're looking forward to more than just pain and sweating.

If you notice the same person working out near you, try to get to know them, for the same reason. Even if you will never see them outside the gym.

Then either join one or find a workout partner. The same idea: make it a social occcasion, rather than just a chore.

I voted A just because that's what I do lol. There are days when I don't feel like exercising, so I try to think of legitimate reasons why I shouldn't, but I can never come up with any, so I just shut up and do it. Plus, if I skip one day because I didn't feel like exercising, I'm more likely to get into the habit of doing that, which I don't want.

You said you want to get in shape--that's your motivation. Whenever you don't feel like working out, try to remind yourself of that.

Try doing something that makes time go by fast like riding a bike, stair climbing exercise,jumpimg rope, shooting hoops, even skating a little. You can even swap up I mean even dancing is good exercise.

Thanks. :) And trust me, I know how easy it is to stop once you don't one day. :P I did GREAT for about a week, got my period, haven't exercised since (though I'm just about to)

Oh, I'm the same way when I get my period lol. But after that week is up, I feel guilty about not exercising and get back into it.

ll well I say join a summer group I'm in marching badn a nd I run a lot so yea, it heps me lose weight that where I lost 10 pounds and I feel great! <#

i just do it. I exercise when I walk to work and when I go home and so I have to do it and it helps. just walk more than driving. I've lost weight doing that for a month now :-)

Get a friend who wants to accomplish the same goal as you and motivate each other on. More fun to exercise with someone then all by your lonesome.

they make me feel so fat that I jump on the treadmill as soon as look at them
