Do you believe alcohol is a worse addiction than tobacco? And why drinkers tend to misjudge smokers mostly than the other way round?

I'm not anything among those 2, but i believe alcohol is worse. I'd prefer to smoke a cigarette than drink a glass of wine if i had to choose. Plus a pack of cigarettes is cheaper than a bottle of wine.

Anyway... I've noticed here that many GAGers who have stated that they drink, yet they despise smoking.

I believe it's hypocritic when a drinker misjudge a smoker. Why they believe they're addiction is "better"? And as well there are tons of "no smoking" signs and almost no "no drinking"... that will make active smokers think they're outcasts.

Anyway what do you believe?

I think tobacco is way worse. I understand drinking you get a buzz, it helps you relax and your all good; when you smoke you get nothing, your just enhalling smoke but you don't get a nice high or buzz from it. Also a glass or red wine a night can be healthy, it has antioxidants and kind of works as a laxative; when you smoke you get no health benefit just negatives. Smoking has really just never made sense to me (also the most inspirational person in my life is a smoker and I promised her I'd never start). Also Charlie shaw is only $3 but a pack of cigs at my local grocery store is like $5

Addiction wise I'd agree that alcohol is worse. Tobacco harms only yourself (As long as you're not smoking in a confined area with others right nearby), but large amounts of alcohol harms yourself and potentially others. However, in terms of moderation and overall, I'd actually say alcohol is better. There are proven benefits to drinking things like wine in moderation (Red wine is good for heart health for instance). So I for one would certainly prefer drinking a glass of wine to a cigarette, considering how awful cigarettes are for your lungs and how they have no valuable effect on health.

tobacco is worse because there is no such thing as responsible consumption of tobacco. It leads to cancer short and simple. the second hand smoke is exponentially more dangerous to bystanders.

Alcohol, if consumed responsibly, doesn't kill the drinker or the people around them. neither in the long nor short term.

that. a smoker who wants to do so on their own at their own risk is no issue to me. if you or anyone wants to responsibly consume tobacco that is their choice and I won't knock. but to look at the objectively responsible drinking vs smoking... clearly smoking is worse. but irresponsible consumption of either (addiction), alcohol has a much more immediate threat

You're right. Also, a drunk person does things that he/she wouldn't do if he. she smoked cigarettes. Of course tobacco harms health of the smoker and others around him but alcoholics are worst in my opinion.

Smoking is worse (sort of) that secondhand smoking can really harm those around you. Alcohol poisons your own body- and only becomes a threat to someone else if you're pregnant (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome).

However... More people do stupid shit while under the influence of alcohol. Ambiguous consent sex, running over people, being abusive, etc. Sometimes
alcohol turns people into monsters. Sometimes. Smoking doesn't really bring about personality or behavioral change like that.

I don't really know. I'd need to pull up data on the deaths attributable to smoking and second hand smoking and compare them to the deaths attributable to alcohol, alcohol overdose, deaths caused while under the influence, violence while under the influence, fetal deaths, etc.

I think drinking is worse. They're both bad for your health long-term but alcohol is very intoxicating whereas smoking is not so there's more of an immediate danger when you drink. However, I don't think the "no smoking" areas are to shame anybody. Smoking emits second-hand smoke into the environment which affects other people and most people who don't smoke aren't cool with having to put themselves at risk because other people want to smoke. Drinking doesn't emit anything like that into the air so it doesn't matter to anyone if you want to drink because it's not like they have to breathe in your fumes.

tobacco is worse in terms of short and long term health even though both are damaging to the body

alcohol is worse in terms of how it makes you act - dependant on if you're talking about a chain smoker and an alcoholic or a casual smoker and someone who has 1-2 glasses/beers a day

Both are terrible, but at least there are some health benefits to a glass of wine or beer (perhaps even a medicinal shot of whiskey).

I can't think of any health benefits of consuming tobacco, so there ya go.

I don't see how smoking could possibly be worse mate. Being constantly drunk (delusional, confused, sometimes aggressive, unaware, slow, unstable) against having bad teeth, breath and smelling like cigarettes... the consequences of an alcoholic are way greater than that of a smoker

You're not wrong, but I don't think that the majority of alcohol users are really "addicted" to it. I think a tobacco addiction is definitely more common.

But being addicted to alcohol is far worse than cigarettes, that's true enough.

I think alcohol is worse because when you're drunk, you make stupid decisions like drunk driving. Also, you have a higher chance of being sexually assaulted.

Tobacco and alcohol are both poisons obviously.

but i believe alcohol is worst addiction that is very hard to stop

When someone drinks alcohol, he doesn't force people close by to breathe alcohol like tobacco smokers do with their addiction.
