QUESTION TO GIRLS! My period has been really irregular.. I'm concerned and I don't want to spend money to see a doctor?

I got my first period my freshman year in HS before spring break (April 2013), then I did not get it again until almost a year later (April 2014). My third period came 4 months later (August 2014).. and I haven't gotten it for 5 months (Jan 2015). I am currently a junior in HS. Do any girls have this problem? What did you do?

A lot of young women experience irregular periods. Periods can be irregular for numerous reasons. Some of those reasons are not a big deal while other causes are more serious. The only way you would be able to know the cause of your irregularity would be to see a doctor.

Possible causes:
-Extreme exercise or dieting. Exercising too much can throw off the timing of menstrual bleeding and sometimes stop it. Being underweight, whether from extreme exercise, dieting, an eating disorder, or illness, can have the same effect.

-Stress. Chronic or even short-term stress can mess with your hormone balance, causing irregularity.

-Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This medical condition causes tiny cysts to form on the ovaries which interferes with regular ovulation.

-Other illnesses. Thyroid disorders can cause irregular periods as well as certain STD's, diabetes, fibroids, eating disorders, and endometriosis.

-Age. When teens first start having periods, their menstrual cycles may not always be on the same schedule every month. It may take several years for their bodies to get into a pattern.

Since I first got mine its been very irregular. Talking about not getting it for months at a time. My doctor wasn't concerned. One time when I got off birth control pills I didn't get it for 6 months

When you first start, like the first year or two, they can be very irregular and erratic. Sometimes even up till 5 years, but after the first year or two they slowly start building up to a regular thing.

Doctors say for the first few years it will be irregular, but i don't think that's normal. I think you should spend the money to see the doctor.

It's normal for periods to be sporadic in the beginning.
I still don't see the hard in going to a doctor.
