Going below 1200 calories?

So the general rule of thumb when you're losing weight is to not go below 1200 calories because your body will enter starvation.

But, apparently, you should eat about 500-ish calories less than what your body needs at your current weight to lose weight.

So what do you do if you eat 500 calories less, but it goes below 1200 calories?

(smaller bodies = less calories, right? i'm at 5'3" and 106 pounds, so would it be fine or not?)
