Does anyone's face getting really red when they drink alcohol?

I hate it, my face gets really warm and red when I drink alcohol. I don't know of it has something to do with family genetics, I'm sure it does. Just a few sips of beer and it looks like I'm blushing :P

It doesn't necessarily have to do with genetics. Alcohol is a vasodialator and an anticoagulant, so it opens up the capillaries on the skin, giving a flushed appearance, and a warm feeling. This is why for a long time, Saint Bernards would carry barrels of brandy with them when a search party was sent out to look for someone in the Alps. They thought that the alcohol actually warmed someone up who was hypothermic, when actually, it drew heat away from the core by way of the skin, and made them more hypothermic.

I suspect it has more to do with your complexion than anything else. Alcohol draws blood to the surface, giving the flushed appearance. With people who have darker complexions, it's less noticeable. It is more pronounced with people who have lighter complexions.

That happens to my sister too! She's not even tipsy but her face looks red af. I think t has something to do with not being able to process alcohol or being allergic... Not sure because she's never been to the doctor for this but some people who know about these things have told her that.

yeah shit happens to me too.. and i am browned skin LOL.. it mostly happens when the temperature is too hot

It's... fairly common in some ethnic groups.

However being an irish/scottish mix, there's no short term redness. but at about 40 years of whiskey drinking i expect my nose to turn red and stay that way.

It's fairly common.

Basically your liver isn't breaking the alcohol down properly. This causes your red blood cells to dilate. Giving you red face.

It's nothing to be concerned about. It's not going to make you sick. If I recall correctly it's just deficient in some enzyme. Sorry I can't be bothered to Google it.

I never drink alcohol so... my voice changes, my head turns, and I fall asleep... after 1 glass.
