What do you think about people with MPDD?

It's not called Multiple Personality Disorder any more, it's Dissociative Identity Disorder. I imagine it must be pretty tough to deal with, especially for their loved ones. Many of the people with the disorder are completely unaware that they even have the condition. I imagine it's quite a shock and hard to accept when they find out about it. Other than that, I don't really know what else to think.

MPDD is EXTREMLY rare and I think they are like everyone else with the exception of a mental illness. MPDD is not a accepted term anymore by the medical community, it's called Dissociative Identity Disorder. I would have empathy for them considering this usually occurs because of extreme trauma or abuse.

I have a friend with DID (the correct medical therm; dissociative identity disorder), and it's honestly quite worrying. Especially if the multiple personalities has totaly different set of behaviors.
It's obviously clear which one is the real "dominant" one, but it's still scary.
Not something i'd want opon anyone.

let's look at it from an other perspective. If a person got multiple personalities, how do you know if it's DID or MPDD?

Personality fragmentation.

can happen with both of them. Multiple personalities, completely black periods of time with no memory...
it's hard to separate them, especially for a regular average joe. Hell, psychriatrists struggle with it.
When they're that similar you can almost consider them more or less identical for the average joe.

So i'd say my point stands.

What was your point? You told me that one does not exist. I stated that both do. It seems your concession and your point were equivalent. Are you certain you do not have "Internet DID"?

never denied that MPDD exist, just stated my friend got DID, and later that they can be so similar a regular person won't really be able to tell them apart. Hence why my experience with DID is more than valid for your ask.

I'm unsure of why you would bother to tell me abut your friend with DID and then bother to enhance the answer with the parenthesis indicating your correction but alas I'll leave you to the worms.

Chances are when people refer to multiple personalities, they are probably thinking of someone with borderline personality disorder, or some other condition with severe mood swings/changes in behavior.

I think the majority of people don't actually understand dissociative personality disorder and are thus unable to form an opinion about it.

(Multiple personality disorder isn't the clinically accepted term)
