What do you think about people with mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder?

I have schizophrenia. I take meds for it so I don't hear the voices anymore but I feel too ashamed to tell people beyond my family about it. I feel like they would look at me like I'm a freak.

I have three close friends with schizophrenia, them being open about their struggles has given me so much understanding of what happens and what they go through.

If you have someone you trust, I advice you to share, and be open about it, and talk about what happens.
It also helps those around you to understand better of you're struggling.

Thanks. I do have two friends that know about it and I try to be as open and honest about it with them. They know my struggles with it and have supported me throughout my tumultuous journey with it.
