Do you get fully naked in the locker room?

As a cross country runner, the answer is yes. You get naked so you can take a shower, because...
1.) You don't want to be that guy who smells like an old fart everywhere he walks because he doesn't want to take a shower
2.) You could be the guy that changes in the bathroom because of self esteem etc., but trust me. You don't want to be that guy. Everyone makes fun of that guy.
3.) As for guys, you usually wear compression shorts in sports so your uhh "junk doesn't go flying around in the trunk" when you run. So that requires changing underwear. 'Cause no one likes their most valuable organ chafing on the 6th mile.

However, the unspoken locker rooms are to not stare, don't talk about the fact you are naked unless you are the alpha male in the wolf pack (because then it is considered manly for whatever reason), don't make fun of other's people's packages, when in the showers, don't face each other cause that is just awkward.

Oh, and in my high school, I guess you could use the toilet, but I don't suggest taking a crap considering the doors were all nonexistent and taking a crap while people are walking by is more awkward than changing clothes in front of other dudes. My school was cheap and never replaced them. Friggin' Texas high school... all the money went to the football team. Pssh I'm not bitter.

I played volleyball in high school and college and the locker room scene in each was vastly different. In hs you wouldn't see any girls naked and everyone changed at home before and after practice. In college though no one seemed to care about being seen nude. We all just waked around pretty freely and hardly anyone bothered with a towel to walk to the showers. In fact most girls only used the towels to wrap their hair after a shower rather than their body. you would only see the incoming freshmen be a little self conscious at first, but that goes away quickly. Only one girl on the team consistently wore a towel wherever she would go and always changed into her clothes while still wearing it. We think it was because her boobs were pretty much non existent and she was insecure. We had a handful of girls on the team who were pretty well endowed in the boob Dept (like 34DD+ range) so maybe that's why she felt that way.

@Jasmine92 I believe I heard somewhere in my high school that the girls didn't naked all the way either... So hey, you're probably right. Each place's social rules are different.

Haaa. Ah damn that had to be fucking weird. I've always wondered if I would have the nerve or guts. How was it at first? Were you scared or nervous or freaked just before? And did that all lift right after you were naked together? I'm grasping at examples. But was it like jumping off of a cliff into water for the first time? Did the awkwardness of it all go away right after you were naked or did it take getting used to? After days of doing it, weeks or months? As weird as it sounds, I don't know anyone here who's done it. It's all at home. I wonder if it's because of the hot climate of Texas or the culture. It seems like it was common here in the 80s. I read somewhere that football players did it there because of morning practices or maybe midday practices and there's no going home during the day.

@Landspout it was something I expected coming into college. During my visit to the school during my senior year of high school my mom and I walked through the Locker room after watching a practice and saw a ton of the girls butt naked. So I knew what the deal was. I was a little anxious at first but volleyball uniforms are not very modest to begin with. Lots of camel toes and wedgies anyways so the next step wasn’t as big a leap as you would think.

I generally feel like it’s something you get used to pretty fast though, because it’s just one of those things in life you’re kind of just... I don't know... forced to accept.

@dangerDoge yea I guess nudity in a locker room is probably looked at differently from an athlete’s perspective than from average gym goers. The only girl that ever got more attention from the team than usual was a freshman my senior year. She had ridiculously huge boobs, especially for a thin build volleyball player. She definitely stood out like a sore thumb in the shower room since most of the rest of us were flat as a board, including myself. She got some teasing at first from the upper classmen but it wore off after a while. I think most of us were just in awe more than anything :) By the end of the season she had become super confident and never even bothered to wear a towel to walk to the showers. I’d probably do the same with those. Haha

I used to in my rugby days. We all did. Nothing untoward happened, I know what you're thinking. It was mostly just ripping on each other about our junk. We actually all had nicknames based upon the size of our junk.
My nickname was the great white. Because I'm so pale. I hated it though, I wanted to be the eel cause that was my favourite rugby league team and the name of my favourite union player.
We played union but we all followed league.

In college sports you don’t even think about it. You’re most likely so tired and drained from practice or a game that feeling shame from being seen naked is the furthest thing from your mind. Fully clothed coaches and trainers used to have full on conversations with completely butt naked girls after they got out of the showers. We never even thought about it that way. Thinking back on it now it seems odd but when you’re living it you don’t think twice.

My local gym has individual showers so nobody really roams around nude, some guys roam around from the shower to their locker in their underwear tho

Yes even in the mixed gender showers/locker rooms since school it was part of the rules even when had to be nude or naked.
