Is my teenage brother suddenly growing at a fast rate for his age (only 13 and already at 5'8)?

He's only 13, his b-day was at the beginning of May. Now he's suddenly at 5'8, an inch taller than me.

It's been a long while since middle school but is this the average height of a boy his age? Or is he growing fast?

He might be an early bird with puberty or he's going to be freakishly tall if it's a consistent thing through adolescence. I was shorter than most dudes until I turned about 16 when I had my major growth spurt then I became really tall. It depends and you can't really judge how tall he'll be.

yeah... he might slow down afterwards. My father claimed he was almost his height of 5'11 when he was 13 and then at 14 hardly grew (probably just that extra inch). That's what I heard once too, that if you grew too early you stop earlier.

I hope he doesn't stop and becomes 6'8" that way he can get a lot of girls and potentially become an NBA player lol

Maybe not 6'8 but does seem like he'll be taller than my father by a couple inches. Not sure how accurate are online height predictors from doctors. I first use my childhood height along with weight.. one gave me my correct height, 5'7 and the other 5'6. When I then put my brother's current age, the results were he would be 6'1 or 6'2.

My younger brother is 13 the same as your brother and he's 5'10" so I'd that he's just average for a boy. It's just genetics he might get taller. My entire family is tall so my brother is just now starting to grow to be taller than 6'4" according to doctors.

Thanks. Yes, your brother is very tall. I think very tall people usually start out tall even in their early teens. Not sure how accurate online height predictor are but I tried two of them. both came out with the result of my brother either reaching 6'1 or 6'2.

Yeah if you want to be more sure go to an endoctornoligist.. That was my best friend when I was growing because they had to take X-rays every 6months to see how rapid my growth was and it ended up to finish at 6'2" now as the doctor predicted for me to be 6'-6'4"

He's probably an early bloomer, don't worry too much about it, I say he'll probably grow to be 6'2

Its normal im 18 im 5'11" expect it to flatten out and slow down unless he has some more growth sperts.

Yes. How tall are your parents? At 13, he is just starting to "sprout". If you are 5'7, I suppose he will be around 6'2-6'4.

My mother is 5'4, father is 5'11... and I'm 5'7.

OK, yeah, makes sense.. but I may be wrong about 6'2-6'4. It also depends also on diet and exercise.

true... it also depends on your health too. I actually used two future calculators height predictors and according to both of them, it had my brother at either 6'1 or 6'2. We'll never know.

yeah... though for most of my family members, they're amazed at how much he has grown. He still obviously looks like a kid, has started getting acne and is on the thin side but vertically, he's very long for his age.
