Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yMen, for sure.
The MH answer... you can't compare a 20% boyfriend man to a 20% boyfriend woman. Ideal boyfriend, minimal boyfriend etc are different for men and women.
But a 'slightly chubby' woman can look VERY sexy, where a slightly chubby man is just 'not a big deal' to many women. Basically, certain types of fat on women enhance their appeal, while most women find men hottest with extremely low boyfriend.
Most guys like some softness in women, most women like men rock hard.
The reason there's confusion here is that men tend to care more about women's bodies than vice versa (which isn't to say women don't care at all, or some don't care a lot).
There's more focus on women's bodies (though focus on men's is increasing) but the standards for men, though less important, are FAR more difficult to obtain. Not only is a much lower boyfriend desired (not just in absolute terms, but relative to what's possible) but high muscle mass is ALSO desired, which required a different hormonal response. Women can have a 'great' body by simply eating right. Most men can't have a 'great' body at all, and even those that can require both eating even better than a woman would while also working out MANY hours a week.10 Reply

P. S. Everyone finds it gross and stuff - yes but there are situations that these are either inherited or a case of some disorder which they can't lose even if they try :) Best is if perception is judicious than just visual ;)

Obviously men. That should be a no brainier. 20% fat on a woman looks good, 20% fat on a man looks unfit and kinda gross

Women are supposed to be fatter than men, there is no doubt about it. None !. Testosterone is a fat burning hormone. Estrogen is a fat storing hormone920 Reply- +1 y

Using percentages as an example I think isn't fair. Because no one in their right mind would call the 20% girl fat while a lot would call the 20% guy fat. Even the 30% girl isn't fat, she's thick. Women's bodies require more body fat than men's but that doesn't make them fat or fatter than men. There's a difference between good fat and bad fat.
- +1 y
@MyUsernameRules I think thats the point fat looks better on woman and more gross on men.
- +1 y
But women require more body fat which is the good, healthy fat for them. By comparing the percentage of both the guys and the girls, you can easily say the girls are clearly more healthy with a much better diet than the guys above them. It's an unfair comparison if you ask me because none of those women are fat. The men and society in general don't see these women as fat while everyone sees the men as fat.

That guy looks a little big for 20% bodyfat
- +1 y
@MyUsernameRules , @Bysshe well the asker said it quite correctly, that IS the point, women look better with more fat than men. Period. Nothing to dispute there. It's not unfair it's just how nature made it. Women need more fat, men can be healthy with almost no fat at all, hence more fat looks better on women than it does on men. You said yourself no one would call the 20% girl fat while most people would the guy with the same amount of fat.
Excess fat lot. Such a vague term what is that supposed to be exactly?
@DaddyRollingStone no it's not. Most pictures on the internet are exaggerated making men with 20% boyfriend look rather lean. I guess to make people feel better about themselves? If you've ever measured boyfriend for a group of several different body types (I have) you will see that 20% on a man is quite chubby - +1 y
If the 20% fat guy had a similar strict workout routine as the 20% fat girl with the same diet as her, he would look a lot different than the guy pictured. His body fat wouldn't even be at 20%. You're mentioning fat in scientific terms while the rest of the society doesn't think of the word fat in that sense. Those 3 girls pictured are not what the society considers to be fat. The 30% girl might be by few guys who prefer their girls to be just skinny but she's thick. So yeah, it's not a fair comparison cause the 20% girl does not have excess fat while the 20% guy does. The 20% girl is in shape. It's as simple as that. I don't know why anyone on their right mind would use her as an example of fat girl. Because if she's fat then pretty much every girl in the world is fat. But no, women just require more fat which is good fat so they have that while men have more muscles. And if there's excess fat among both men and women, more than their body requires that is, then they are overweight.
- +1 y
@Bysshe I don't know. There are a lot of overweight (not going to use the word fat anymore) guys who are pretty scary and strong who can even take down some really muscular men using their weight. I don't really think the fact that they have excessive body fat makes them less masculine but it sure makes them less healthy though.

@MyUsernameRules "If the 20% fat guy had a similar strict workout routine as the 20% fat girl with the same diet as her, he would look a lot different than the guy pictured. His body fat wouldn't even be at 20%. " ya so what? The question wasn't to compare fitness levels or excess fat for that matter, it was to compare fat. Just plain fat.
I didn't use her as an example of a fat girl I was just illustrating a point, which is that the same amount of fat looks very different on men and women. To answer the question it looks worse on men
And I agree with @Bysshe I do thin excess fat, whatever that is looks worse on men. Why? Because fat is feminine, muscle is masculine. It's not a question of being strong, this was a question about aesthetics and without a doubt fat makes you look less masculine - +1 y
Plain fat, sure but the whole world sees the word fat as excessive fat. You're using the word fat in scientific terms and expect everyone else to be on the same page. So yeah, scientifically you're right if the word fat is used in a proper term but your average person will see this question much differently than you do. Fact is no one will see those women as fat.
If we're discussing masculinity, strength has to be brought up because a person being strong does make him masculine. Even if he's fat. You can't deny that but muscles beat everything else when it comes to masculinity in males. I honestly don't know who looks better or worse between the 2 but I do know that most or almost all men like to be dominant and many can't imagine being dominant with women who have excessive amount of fat. Unless the guys wanna be really submissive, open to all body types, or just a typical weirdo with fat fetish I really don't think they are seen that feminine by guys. - +1 y
Both are either equal in my opinion or women might have the upper hand but just by a small margin. I'm not entirely sure but it's very close I think.
- +1 y
@MyUsernameRules fat within reason of course if feminine and the same for muscles. And taken everything into account the ideal for men is still a lot leaner and showing more muscles than for women.
This would a very good shape for men get-abs-online.tk/.../hey-abs-24.jpg women can LOOK similarly lean and muscular (to some extend ) s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/.../...0bcc5a09f1.jpg but a lot of men would think that is too much. They prefer less muscle and more fat. Because muscle LOOKS masculine and fat LOOKS feminine (within reason of course).
It's NOT strength, just talking about the way it looks. And being very lean and muscular is something that is clearly associated with masculinity. Having your muscles covered by a layer or two of fat is clearly associated with femininity. Boobs are fat. Men get boobs when they get fat. "Curves" is where women ideally store fat, curves ARE mostly fat on boobs, hips and bum. - +1 y
I'm talking about excessive amount of fat, which the society itself sees as the word fat like referring to overweight or obese women. Those women are truly not seen as feminine by men generally as the ones who don't have any excessive amount of body fat like the ones in between 20-30% fat. "Curvy" women aren't seen as "fat" by the average person and definitely not by the average male in the society. And looking masculine and being masculine are two different things. They might make you look less masculine but no way in hell I believe guarantees that they make you less masculine like you said earlier. And even though that muscular girl is a bit too much, most men would still pick her over any overweight or obese women in a heartbeat. I can guarantee you on that. Anyways, fat does look more gross on men if you look at the word in a proper term so touche :)
- +1 y
@MyUsernameRules but all of that was not the question, it was about fat and no matter how twist and turn it the answer is always the same
And no, I did NOT say fat makes you less masculine, I literally said "Because fat is feminine, muscle is masculine. It's not a question of being strong, this was a question about aesthetics and without a doubt fat makes you look less masculine" I don't think I could have made it any clearer. - +1 y
Yeah, that's true. But the word "fat" still isn't used in the way you're using it by the whole world. There are no twists and turns because that's how we've all used the term almost our whole lives. And sure, aesthetically you may be right but at the same time, most men like being dominant so very few would find that appealing in women. I'm not too sure that overweight women end up losing less of her feminine looks by being overweight/obese than overweight/obese men losing his masculine looks. Because the overweight man can still have that dominating appeal and nature which is masculine whereas it can be hard to be dominant with an overweight/obese woman by having her be submissive, which can reduce her as being feminine and this is aesthetics based too. So yeah, I don't think I can agree with his comment so I'll stay undecided on that.

+1 yIt looks worse on men to me. In women, the fat can go to other places, evening out how it looks. In men, it can all go to the stomach and it doesn't look appealing. Plus, it's less societal accepted to be fat when you're a man. Sorry but this world has a serious case of fat phobia.
