Just lose weight overall, ideally through cardio like jogging, biking, or my personal favourite, the elliptical.
Target exercises like crunches, mean specifically to work on your abs, don't do much in terms of actual weight loss. They're more for muscle definition, which will only be useful once you've lost enough excess weight overall.

Cardio. Something as simple as running / jogging for 20 min a day.
People will usually say exercise but the most important thing is diet.
So if you eat a lot on any given day, just stick your finger in your mouth and throw it all up.
