666 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Vegans "push" their agenda on people because we care. We care about every single animal that is slaughtered every day, we want to save lives, so we raise awareness and talk about the issues at hand. We care about the environment, so we push veganism since it is the best diet for the planet. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions and environmental destruction, so we do our best to discourage use of animal products. Unhealthy eating and the overconsumption of animal products is also the cause of (or at least linked to) 15 of 16 top killers in the US. Over a million people died in the year 2014 from diseases that could have easily been prevented or even reversed with a whole foods, plant based diet. We care about people, so we do our best to get this information out there. We just care so much about humanity, animals, this planet, that we feel the need to do our best to help. This video may help you get a better understand of why vegans act the way we do. We aren't trying to be annoying and there's no sinister "agenda". We just want to save the planet and everything on it.

@Harbor If a pescetarian is concerned about the welfare of animals, the health of our oceans, and their own health, then I trust they'd eventually move towards a vegan diet. Some people do it on their own time though and try pescetarian being they go on to vegetarian and then eventually vegan. I, myself, gave up factory farmed meat and only consumed hunted meat before giving it up entirely and going vegetarian. It took me a while to go vegan, but I'm glad I did it :).
- +1 y
I understand that you care, but you are supporting GMO'S and the use of SOY, which is the number one killer on the planet.

@Harbor yes it is. just ask any woman with endometriosis. and i know what i'm talking about because i have it. any doctor could tell you the same thing.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yYou can't say that all vegans are like this.
It all depends on the type of person actually.
Just like some meat eaters go 'boooo vegans/vegetarians, you don't know what you're missing out on by not eating meat!!' the same applies to vegans and vegetarians. They are simply passionate about not inhumanely torturing animals just for them to be eaten. Some people are strongly opinionated, some aren't. It's not just vegans, meat eaters and vegetarians can also be like this. Again, it all depends on the person and how they were brought up/their personal beliefs.01 Reply- +1 y
i understand, but no one has a right to dictate how anyone else should live.
+1 yI don't know either. Maybe cause they love animals and they would do what mother do to those who eat their babies? I don't know lol but i hate this typical behavior of vegans as well. I always tell them that the reason i will never become a vegan is to not satisfy annoying people like them. And i will never, ever date a vegan. Life has enough problems without having to worry about overpriced and un-tasty vegan substitutes for animal products everytime i want to Cook for my boyfriend and myself. Or worrying about finding vegan Restaurants. Life is enough of a bitch.

It is pretty much why some Christian's will have sex with a different person every week, and then still bash on a gay committed couple for sinning. It isn't about being a better person, as much as it is feeling like you are a better person than others.
I said "some Christian's" not all. I am not picking on anyone's faith. I am talking about a certain type of person, and just needed an example.20 Reply

+1 yI don't know, but I have known several who were literally bordering on psychosis. Not just about their vegan, save the earth, create less waste agenda, but about everything. I was giving one a ride home once from a study session, and when he found out that I ate meat, he asked me to pull over at the next traffic light and let him out, because he refused to be in the same vehicle as a 'killer'. He called me a savage, and when I was looking for a safe place to pull over and let him out, he got so hysterical that he literally rolled down the window and jumped out of my car and INTO oncoming traffic. Just one example of how extremist many vegans are. Granted, not all are like that, but I agree with you that many of them push their agenda too hard. And a lot of them seem downright unstable.

holy crap! was he ok? that's dangerous. and yes, that is extreme.

Yeah, the car in that lane swerved to miss him, and he got up right away and got out of the street.

However I know plenty of nice vegans. There are just some self righteous assholes in the world (i. e Freeleethebananagirl) but that could be sai about many groups outside of vegans.

@Maxemeister actually we're not killing plants before eating them. In fact, we're actually helping them reproduce by eating them

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yBecause being vegan is what gives them their sense of self worth, if you challenge the value of veganism it's like you are telling them they are worthless.
Let's face it, it's hard to be a good person, to love your neighbor as yourself. Not eating animal products is easy by comparison. Psychologically it's kind of like the sort of self-mortification religious people did in the middle ages.
To quote 'Scott Pilgrim versus the World', "because vegans are just better than other people".11 Reply
+1 yI'm surprised with how big a thing this has become. Then again, given how obsessed people are these days with saving animals, partly because of how anti-social we've become as a society, pets have become peoples best friends. So of coarse when they see you eating a big mac they'll go ape-shit.

WHAT ABOUT THE PLANTS
DID YOU PEOPLE EVER THINK ABOUT THE PLANTS?435 Reply- +1 y
@Josht11 Alright hold up hold up boy
Just because these animals have nerves, doesn't mean that they're more "important" than plants. These animals cause more harm than plants ever will. Cows are a significant contributor to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Now think about this: We've bred cows, pigs and chickens for domestication. If we didn't fucking eat them, then what? What would we do? They can't survive in the wild, or if they do they'll outcompete other organisms for resources.
Our consumption of meat is simply nature. Natural selection. We're utilizing our superior intelligence to feed ourselves with ease. And deforestation? How does that at all relate to veganism? Climate change? Nothing to do with meat, either. Except that these animals contribute to it. And as for heart disease and cancer, as long as you're careful and mindful of what you eat. And not an idiot.
Stop trying to change the world for "the better" even though you're just being a pain in the ass - +1 y
HAHAHAHAHAHA STFU mate and go back to school. second of all plants aren't more important they don't have a central nervous system they don't have a brain, people brain dead but can't feel anything are called vegetables you know why eh? secondly these animals only cause harm because we are farming them to uncontrollable levels, if we eat more plants less plants would be eaten by animals reducing those effects, we are the animals that cause the most damage so shall I just come round your house and kill you. If we didn't eat them then we'd stop breeding them for domestication dipshit, this will be a slow process so the population will slowly decrease to a natural sustainable level in cows, minimizing the effect on the environment, How about we utilize our superior intellect to do what's better for ourselves and the environment also deforestation to graze cattle is one of the biggest things adding to global warming so that's where that comes in. I'll tell you stop cancer less meat more veg
- +1 y
@Josht11 They don't need to have a central nervous system. That doesn't make us more important, that's just our adaptation. Why are those people called that? Because that's a fucking slang term. *facepalm.* And you said secondly twice, by the way, and so what are you saying? Let the animals starve to death? If you stop killing them, then you're left with a couple hundred billion farm animals with no benefit to the world slowly producing greenhouse gases and overgrazing. And if we stopped breeding them, then what would stop them from mating themselves?
Honestly, I don't think you have it all planned out. If we tried it your way, we'd be cutting out an ENTIRE section of food from the entire world. Let's get something straight: No matter what, meat is a thousand times tastier than vegetables. And your vegetables, fruit, etc., they're loaded with fiber that will be a torture on our digestive system.
So what you vegans want is to: Eliminate perhaps the most delicious food on Earth, - +1 y
make people buy the most expensive food on Earth, that which they cannot afford, and kill off an entire species.
Genius. - +1 y
When it comes to the animals, phasing them out and allowing that flesh to be consumed is the best option and most logical option. My first boyfriend asked the same question in high school "What will happen to the cows? Will they starve or go extinct?" Well, for one, if we got to a point where we (a people) wanted to stop eating meat, I'm about 100% sure it would be a gradual process in which new animals wouldn't be added to the population and the ones that did exist would be either given to sanctuaries or killed and their meat divvied out. And some people have cows for pets, that would probably still be the case afterwards and possibly it might become a trend for people to have cows as pets to help save a few from the big cull.

to be absolutely fair, both the meat industry and the vegetable industry need serious overhauls. GMOs are just as bad as what they are doing to the meat industry. Just saying. I'll let you guys work this out now.

you know, i have to wonder why no one has rioted yet? look at what's happening in the world right now. and everybody is ok with this? what gives?
- +1 y
Not many people are aware of it, and when they try to change it, these meat and food industries have power in the government, as they pay many congressmen.
- +1 y
i'm not just talking about the industries. i'm talking about the crazy people trying to take over the world. the fact that the universities are becoming corrupt, and the government itself.
- +1 y
I dunno man, broccoli, spirulina (algae), spinach... lots of foods have more protein per calorie or just as much (or just a little bit less) than beef. There are so many different options. It just seems kinda lazy and apathetic to consume large quantities (esp. beef) knowing it's bad for the environment and also wastes a load of fresh water and food that could go to people (that are actually dying of starvation) I love animals, but I think fresh food and water should be given to people first and your steak last (and my ice cream as well-since I eat that)
Regarding your allergies, people with extreme allergies should be able to get all the nutrients they need safely (even if those nutrients come from meat) but even then, chicken would be a better option than beef because of its better feed conversion ratio.
All I'm saying is, it (a vegan world) is definitely possible. - +1 y
Who's trying to take over the world?

feminists...

@Josht11 I don't care, I don't care, I don't care (even if humans contribute to it), It's my body and my problem, it's my body and my problem, it's my body and my problem. There's your answers.
- +1 y
@vishna @Josht11 have any of you foreseen the problems that'll arise sustaining crops to support the entire planet's diet? what bout the space to grow crops? are they just going to build 200floor greenhouses? is all the physical labor gonna be automated? what about the water supply that's required... etc
iirc the protein of the future is insects. that'll make all you vegans happy as insects aren't sentient creatures. (although this is still up for debate).
- +1 y
@orphan there's sufficient protein in plant based foods and it will be a gradual process (how do you think we sustain the meat industry the fact is that it isn't. It's cheaper to grow crops and doesn't require as many resources (obviously space is a big one though) this could be a problem but it already is a problem with the meat industry and a bigger one and this isn't a reason not to do it this is a reason to solve overpopulation.
- +1 y
@SüßeJäger respect the honesty man at least you can admit you only do it because you don't give a shit about it and do it cos you can I hate it when people try and justify it.
- +1 y
@Josht11 I'm not willing to change my whole life and culture just because some scientists believe people are contributing to global warming. There's so many red flags when they lie about numbers, want to charge for carbon used which will eventually charge us to breathe (we exhale carbon dioxide). The weather changes on earth any always will. There's been extremely radical changes before us and there will be after us. If I'm wrong and we are contributing to global warming enough to matter, there's nothing we can do to stop it so I'm not going to worry about it. That woman makes a lot of sense. My family has been farmers. The ground can only take so much farming before it has to be fertilized synthetically. Cattle eat grass and fertilize the ground naturally.
- +1 y
@SüßeJäger cow shit can still fertilize the ground for plants, we are making a large enough dent in global warming and meat also takes thousands of litres of water to make if you think it's too late then your a bit of a defeatist, maybe you don't care about sustaining the planet for future generations I do.
- +1 y
@Josht11 I do care about sustaining it. I don't think there's any problems we are causing or can do anything about.
- +1 y
@orphan Actually, I fully support building up rather than out. There of course is a limit, but since man kind has put nothing the smallest effort into that type of agriculture, none of knows exactly where the limit is. And I don't eat a vegan diet, however, I support people eating bugs if they want to. I try to reduce suffering (physical and mental) Though, I think most people could absolutely survive, and be healthy, on a vegan diet.
- +1 y
@orphan Yes, I need stimulation. And without it, my mental state would decline. Besides, there's a difference between living and existing. And I think all creatures should have the freedom to express most of their natural behaviors (like perching, roosting, opening their wings, turning around for sure*) I think without the ability to do so, the animal gets frustrated, and quality of life declines and they might pick up bad habits to try and relieve that stress ex) bar chewing, head weaving, and aggression.
+1 yDon't know I would imagine it has to do with self righteousness since it borders on zealotry. Plus most of their arguments that I have seen are invalid.
06 Reply- +1 y
@Josht11 No, because they don't go around announcing to the world that they are meat eaters, that every one should be meat eaters and that your a worhtless human being if you don't eat meat. So that is why I would not say the same about meat eaters. Most don't give a damn what you eat, only vegetarians and specificly vegans care what others eat.
- +1 y
@Josht11 But you did. You immediately announced it, you immediatley commented on this article, ie attacking the comment instead of explaining why it happens or explaining tha most do not ie you did the very thing you say your not doing. And no, I don't worry about eating meat because we are biologicly designed to do so so that would be like a wolf feeling bad for eating a dear ie illogical and stupid.
- +1 y
@Josht11 You absolutely can respond, never said you shouldn't I merely pointed out the way you responded was precisely what the original asker pointed out vegans do. No I am not a wolf, I am human which makes me an omnivore. We are biologicly built to eat and digest both meat and vegetation. Are jaw bone is smaller (relatively speaking) as well as the muscles and sagital crest because we began to eat meat. It was softer so it required less muslce and hence the loss of the sagital crest (where the jaw muscles originally anchored to) and reduction in jaw bone size because it was no longer spending as much time chewing. Our brain size is specificly due to the ingestion of animal fat as its a high energy food source, the reason why most herbivores animals spend the majority of their time eating, because of its low calorie and protien content. Why shouldn't we eat meat? Their is no logical reason not to.
Lierre keith is a fucking psycho who never actually went on a vegan diet, she has said she cheated on dairy etc it's bullshit vegan gains did a good video on her.

A month or so ago, Will Tuttle, author of The World Peace Diet, a book sometimes called the vegan bible, came to speak to a vegan club I was in. Even though I didn't agree with everything he said, he did say something that struck me, paraphrasing "You have beginner vegans, angry vegans, and mature vegans." Beginners are people who recently started the diet, angry vegans are the people who push away others with their fervor and can't understand how people could say no to a diet that, in their opinion, saves other beings from suffering and helps the planet. Mature vegans have gotten past those feelings of confusion and anger. And they live their lives and spread the word a different way. He went on to say "A lot of people get stuck in the angry vegan stage." And I think that's true.
- +1 y
I empathize with angry vegans to an extent. It's not that they started out as bad people or annoying people. As someone who eats a vegetarian diet, in the beginning for the animals, it does hurt when people just don't care about the suffering of other beings, especially when you see them as more than their flesh. And I can understand how all that passion about animals and the fact that being vegan IS the single best diet plan for our longterm survival on this planet (given the current way we abuse it), I can see how all that can make someone confused and angry. However, I think adults should be adults and be able to get past those feelings and spread the word in a different way.
- +1 y
i understand what you are saying, but what is happening with GMO's is not good for vegan's either. I think we need to overhaul both systems.
