Does walking everyday for an hour & back both ways keep you fit?

What does walking everyday do for your body? Does it make you more fit? Lose weight? What does it do because I walk a hr and back everyday to & from work and also wear my belly burner to work on my belly & there's always a lot of sweat on it when I remove it. Does it mean it's working? I wanna see results fast place helpp!!!
