    If you need to gain weight, 3 days a week should be enough. Do strength, talk to a PT about your routine and diet. They might recommend something.

    ^^ Honestly, with USA weight issues, I'd say 5 times.

    * I do 6 days. 5 days at the gym and 1 day outdoors. 1 rest day. It's plenty for me.

    Exceedingly stupid gym rats are going to tell you no, but you do need to give yourself time to rest. It's during the resting phase that you actually build muscle, so it's essential.

      For 'average' people, 3 days a week is not enough. 5 would be ideal.

      However, since the asker stated "fast metabolism and need to gain weight", I agree 3 days a week is plenty.

      @Smmyskittles I have always found that 3-4 is good for me. I *can* go every day, but I get bored. The gym is boring. I prefer to be outdoors, but even that can get boring.

    Three day splits are the best if you've recently started lifting and especially if you're a hardgainer or an ectomorph which I think you are. Do full body workouts and take alternate days off. Just make sure in those three days you hit different muscle groups at the beginning of each session. Eat a lot if you're too bothered to go through all the BMR and TEE thing.     It's always good to let your muscles adapt the day after you workout so yes. But you could stay specific on your arms, abs, legs or cardio on one day and switch the next day is good but to work the same muscles back to back days is bad

    Depends what your doing. You need to work your upper body and your legs. 3 days is not enough

    You'll slowly gain muscle weight. It will be slow though. And if it's three days a week you'll need to make sure you have good workouts that target the majority of your muscle groups.
