Yes, I check for lumps, but not for no mammograms. Hell no! And I do mean: Hell no. I have fibrocystic breast disorder, as that runs in the family. They come and they go, and most of the times they stay. It burns, stings and becomes sore. I also had a tumor in my breast before that had to be removed via surgery. And that was back when I was 13. So yes, its almost an everyday thing that I do. I don't want another one, or god forbid it turns to cancer. Its too scary to think about it. :(

But how would you get screened without mammograms?

I don't need to get screened for anything. I get a regular appointment at the GYN, and they refer me to get a sonogram done. And trust me. THAT is painful enough when they press the roller all over your chest, and your boney and have costochondritis and muscle wasting. That is how mine were detected.

From my late mother's experience. The machine will flatten out your breast and they can't stop just because your in pain! They have to. And by the way. That mammogram machine was invented by a man, no less. My late mother jokingly said: "I think the man who invented that killer machine was bitter at women!" But no seriously, she was is really bad shape after that.

Mammograms works for some people, but its not always effective. And if you don't already have sagging breast. Brace yourself and get your pain meds and asthma pump ready. :(

Well I've had several (Breast cancer runs really strong and my family) and it was pretty uncomfortable but it didn't hurt. It really felt like having my blood pressure taken (but the plates were pretty cold too). Did your mom have fibrocystic breasts too?

No. She was in her early 40's before she passed away, so she had to get routine screening for breast cancer. But my grandmother, which is her mom has it. It runs in the family, but not everybody gets them.

Well maybe your mom had a mean technologist. What my tech told me (regarding the squeeze) is that if it hurts, she's squeezing too hard BUT if it's not uncomfortable, then she isn't squeezing hard enough and the image quality would be compromised. the Also, it didn't make my boobs "sag", they popped right back up when the pressure is released.

Oh, I wasn't saying that they make them saggy. But what I'm saying is that if they press on it, it will do what you just said. Unless they're naturally saggy. But I believe you are right about that though. My mom had a lot of things happen to her when getting exams that nasty people do to you.

My G. P told me that mammograms aren't always effective with women with breast implants (that's me) so checking myself is pretty much something I do regularly. There is history of cancer in my family so it's something I take the time doing and thoroughly.

Everyone should do their own checks regardless of age - so if at any point something does change you can recognise it

I always check. I've already had two tumours removed from my chest. (I don't have cancer, but a tumour causing disorder )

Well, it was just one of the requisites in the annual medical checkup of my previous company for women over 30 years old. Luckily, I didn't and don't suspect anything.

But then people in my family are far more prone to get brain tumours (that's actually really common way to die for members of my family) so if anything, that's probably something I should be worried about but u can't just check for that unless it's pretty much too late so yolo :P
