I exercised this summer and at first I lost 7lbs just jogging and doing regular stuff but then I had to go to my grandmas house for a month which she really kills me she eats so bad I gain up to 20lbs up there sometimes so I decided to dedicate myself to not do that so I worked really hard but its impossible with the food she takes us out to so what I'm trying to say is sometimes working on your diet is better first and if youve already done that than ill lend you another piece of advice its more of a technique but I gained 9lbs while I was up there even exercising daily and eating as healthy as possible so when I came back home there was no air conditioning and it gets up to 115+ here so its always hot and because of the amount of sweat and the appetites being killed I've lost 8lbs eating garbage

First and foremost, take it easy starting out. Don't push yourselves too much at the start because you'll only injure yourself. You need to gradually let your muscles and joints get used to regular exercise.
Start off with small distances, maybe do three 10 minute jogs a week for two weeks, then do three 15 minute jogs for the following two weeks, and so on. Eventually you'll gain enough stamina and bulid your endurance to go longer and run faster.
If you are already somewhat fit, and feel you could jog for longer than 10 minutes starting out, don't. You still run the risk of injuring yourself if you start out somewhere around the middle and push on from there.
I disagree with the 'go for a 10 minute run' stuff because it hardly has any effect.Unless you didn't have surgery or something you'd be better off to start with 30 min. I would recommend tho you guys run for an whole hour from the beginning on. Of course you need to go rather slow at first, only go so fast that you can still talk with each other without running out of breath. Make sure you don't start off too fast and chose a route where you don't have to run uphill. Get the right shoes.
Once your on it for a while you can start doing intervals and running up and down hills and stuff

start off slower and alternate 5 minute periods of walking/jogging until you are used to running and stuff. then once you get accustomed to it just kick up the intensity into overdrive and get beast mode.
