u +1 yI can only speak from experience which is the second... and went for about 10 long long years and it culminated at a very very difficult turning point, the darkest point of my life and since then, it hasn't come back as it was.
I honestly don't know how it would be to face a sudden hard black depression that would come "out of nowhere" like the grey one seemed to be (at least for me) and if were to come from tragedy, the thoughts of that are something I can dread for.. so I just keep it away from my mind any way I can, I just have not experienced something as strong like that.
If my fellow greyish companion decided to come back and stay for a while, I want to think that I'd feel much safer this time, as we got to know each well and for a long time... but nowadays, it's just my anxiety that can sometimes go livewire and that's due to high levels of stress from this life, and for this... well, it's still a gradual learning process for me... in a way, half my life was feeling nothing much or at all, to then, feeling everything way too much... so I do aim to a balance, that's where it feels home the most.10 Reply

me to give her some and this month she told me, a druggie stole her money and
xanax also mind she is on methadone, she has been on drugs since age 17-18
she went to Green Brair but that didn't go well she doesn't want help but I pray

1.9K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Long grey ones. I can drink away or hide away from a sudden bout. But when you try to soldier on for way too long, the weight piles up and eventually drowns you in despair. After all, what hurts more: being set on fire fully, or slowly being roasted alive?

+1 yIt's hard to say because I have never heard nor read anything defines depression as black or grey.

Everyone else seems to get what I mean
It shows your thoughts and emotions are now working the way you want them to be. I would suggest enrolling in yoga classes and try to practice silence and witness what's going in your brain and what triggers it. Your brain should listen to you not you should listen to your brain. Learn how to use your thoughts and emotions on your own terms and command. This depression will eventually be gone sooner than expected if you can learn how to use your thoughts and emotion as per your choice. Imagine how it will feel if you can use your thoughts and emotions the way you want rather than letting them make you feel miserable. The only question is when are you going to learn it. It's like this when we need our walk we use it, they don't start walking themselves we command them. Similarly, your brain should not start making you feel miserable by not allowing you to use your thoughts and emotion like how you want. Depression is just a fancy word of your own brain turning against you. Do your legs ever turn against you? Think and you will easily tackle it.
12 ReplyIt's been my experience that sudden black depressions usually clear up almost as fast as they set in.
However, long gray depressions take just as long to clear up, if they ever do so at all. Furthermore, long gray depressions are often punctuated with sudden black depressions. Depression heaped on depression is a very bad recipe indeed.
Alas, since my mother's passing, I have been in a long gray depression, and recently a very dark black depression which has gone on for more than a year and a half. It's just awful. At times I spend several minutes each morning sobbing... or worse, wishing I hadn't woken up at all. For my students, I maintained a cheerful disposition. However, it's probably a blessing I'm currently not teaching as I might be worse off when I crash at the end of each day. My students are probably better off, too.
I believe a sudden black depression in the absence of a long gray depression is probably the most recoverable.22 Reply- +1 y
I'm sorry for the loss of your mother.

468 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I've never had either even though this last past year I don't care what it is every time I turn around there is something going wrong I swear there's something tried to make me go depressed make me angry make me change my ways I'm not going to do it I will keep battling no matter what my friends have told me dude I would have lost it by now. Weather is bad luck some kind of force some kind of negative energy I don't know what it is but it can go fuck itself it will not win ever. I am so glad that the end of your sentence you said and it eventually goes away I am so happy to hear that I don't know what causes depression the only thing that I truly know is it cat badly there's no way you can ever have me I don't care what happens to me I'm going to stay positive no matter what this is just a moment in time and this moment will pass too
10 ReplySince being diagnosed with depression about 7yrs ago, I've gone through some really rough patches in the very early going. I've gotten through those by the grace of God and family.
I haven't been in that state for quite a long time. I have my days don't get me wrong but I fight like hell not to give in and yeah there are times when I just go to bed and wake up just about at the other end of the spectrum so to speak, feeling pretty good and happy that I got through it.
I work on myself every single day with hopes that someday there will be no more of those dark days but until then I will be a work in progress... that's the key word progress, to move forward stay positive, calm and not take things so seriously. I wish this for everyone, not just myself. 💯20 Reply
+1 ySimilar here.
the long winding ones give me time to cope, to let others know.
the sudden fast elevator, falling off a cliff depressions really fuck me over but more importantly have a greater impact on family and friends.
So for me the sudden hard black depression is worse.10 ReplyHoney, black or gray or any other color... The important thing is that it ends and the more important you know it will end. OTOH you can distinguish between black and colours. Maybe others live in the gray zone all their lives, with all their consciousness and awareness but unaware of colors... And I think this is the real suffering.

+1 yHard to say. I think I'd vote for the gray. The sudden hard black can have permanent effects (suicide) but they gray can make you miserable for a long time and suck the joy out of life. You're getting treatment I hope?

+1 yThe sudden ones hit me really hard and catch me off guard. While the long grey ones feel like they will never end, the sudden black ones are harder on me.

+1 yI feel a long depression is worst. I say that because a sudden depression won't last as nearly as long as a longer depression. For the duration of that long depression you can literally mess up your whole life if you don't even know thats whats your experiencing. But that short depression may be sudden and quick. At most you may mess up a week or a month.

+1 yWell technically the worse is depression with major depressive episodes, I’m pretty sure that’s what doctors consider the worst.

+1 ylong slow one. that's why they say it's better to go out with a bang, than with a simmer. my first cousin once removed's wife, had ms, and was suffering for a long time. she passed away last year, and he said "its ok, she's not suffering anymore"
31 Reply- +1 y
That also makes sense. But the pain of acute depression is really sharp and strong.
+1 yI'm not sure. Can't give you a definitive answer. But my guess is the latter. The longer the depression lasts, the harder the anxiety builds up, and the more time that anxiety gets to appear.
23 Reply- +1 y
Unfortunately that’s true

I'm more of an anxiety then depression type of person rather then the depression then anxiety but my gut tells me that

+1 yThe long depression is the worst, acute hurts but you learn to switch off and wait til it goes. It's just a way of telling you your environment is stressing you. But the long one is harder to pull out of.
