I am ethical vegetarian myself and I most definitely think its not ethical. I was raised to believe otherwise but even as a child, I wasn't alright with it.
That being said, this change has to come from the inside. Not all people are on the same level of understanding, and this kind of choice must never be pushed on, onto anyone.
God originally created us as vegans and we never ate meat, but when he flooded the earth he changed that maybe due to the lack of vegetation once Noah's ship landed and the water subsided. The latest health studies have shown that a diet of 10%, or less, of meat will reduce the risk of cancer. Great question Ms SG! :)
Well, too much of anything is not good for you, see Gout from too rich (as in meaty) a diet, which happens to some people, but protein in general is not a bad thing.
But what do you think they ate on the ark for a year? That is why God placed more than two of certain kinds of animals on the ark. If you noticed some animals only eat meat, like the Big Cats. Crocodiles, snakes, some birds like raptors, and the list goes on.
I don't have a problem with conscious when I eat meat. I much rather hunt my meat than buy it in the stores though. I don't waste it either. And I'm grateful for it.
I have no problems with people that are vegans, they will just have a hard time eating when I'm cooking.
Also humans are not capable of surviving on a meat-only based diet. Humans can survive by being exclusive herbivores but humans CANNOT survive being excusively carnivores like felines and many other types of mammals are
I feel really bad for the plants that are killed for people to eat. Is that ethical? what about those that eat bugs, they are alive too. There is nothing we eat that isn't or wasn't a live at some point.
I'm sure If a argument had to be made not eating meat would be the better option I mean we over fished the oceans, juicy red meats can cause health problems so on and so forth but that's not really going to change many peoples lifestyles including my own if that's going to change you need financial incentives
I've seen a cow eat a bird. And I've seen rabbits eat hamburger. Guess what? There are few 100% herbivores in the animal kingdom. And if you're eating plain lettuce, what about the 750 million microscopic animals on it? Not just bacteria, but the small insects too. Also... How do you know for *sure* plants don't have souls? :) Just... Food for thought lol
People have been brainwashed Into over eating meat. People eat for pleasure not even for survival. No one hunts their own meat. No one lives off the land. All farm animals are born and suffer for our gluttony? We are omnivores, we have a choice. Most choose the non empathic way to fill their greedy stomachs. That's why so many people are angry and crazy, You eating animals that suffered before they get killed slowly or fast. It's sad really that greed will be stronger.. 😑
My family hunts their own meat, most of us have gardens we harvest from. I grew up learning how to hunt, and garden, can and preserve our own food. You claim that all farm animals suffer, that is not true. You should have seen our chickens and cows, and my brother in law's sheep and goats. Not all farm animals suffer, some people actually care about the animals that they raise.
I love to garden too. But that sounds so odd. You respect the animals, yet choose to end their life for food? I find humans over consume meat. That we had to start growing animals faster, by pumping them with hormones and what not. The general population doesn't live off the land at all. We just take, take, take. When we have the option to co-exist with nature. What about veal? Baby? Lamb baby? Why do humans even have to eat the baby animals? I just feel way to bad. That was or huge reason why I started to changed my diet. And then many more. I'm vegetarian. And hoping to convert to vegan. Trying to educate myself before I do
The way I look at it mother nature wouldn't have made animals so tasty if we weren't meant to eat them. Additional we are designed to consume meat and plants, no we don't have to but we do, as do many animals and it is natural.
Everyone has their own moral standards. I think it goes against a lot of people's moral standards but most of them protect themselves against that with cognitive dissonance. I mean, we all do that in all sorts of moral questions. But I think it's especially prevalent when it comes to this topic.
It's neither. We just have to survive. And even if you'd like to argue it's not necessary anymore because of modern tech, the real thing is way better than supplements and substitutes health wise. If everyone goes vegan, those farm animals will just be the new pests in our society that we'll just kill anyways.
it depends on how you do it, eating meat is not inherently wrong, if you hunt responsibly and sustainably and eat off of it, I think that's ethically correct, but if in a world where there's millions of people without resources like food and water, if you contribute heavily into it by eating lots of processed meat everyday, wasting those resources when you have other solutions, then yeah I think that's unethical
Yes? As long as an animal's pain and suffering is minimized at least. These animals die in nature, they kill in nature, they're not ethically complex entities. It's as ethical to eat animals as it is to eat plants.
I'm not sure. There are multiple views about it (starting from Greenhouse effects to world hunger.. you name it). Having said that, I do eat meat but I'm can also live without it without any issues. My honest answer to your question is I'm not sure.
If we stop eating meat then the animals wins they’re stronger and survival of the fittest is an unspoken inherent absolute rule the fact that we are smart enough to kill skin and cook their asses is what keeps us from being somewhere lower on the food chain
Ethical, yes. Now whether it's healthy or not is more of a concern for me because of all the packing and processing done to meats in grocery stores in America.
that's why we pretend nowadays... and we're quite selective about it
there's absolutely nothing wrong with eating meat
the problems are with something else, mostly how we produce it now that, is absolutely messed up, it is not sustainable at all
which, should be an issue easy to solve, since "we're not animals" and yet... we don't care... we just pretend to be ethical when it is convenient, and that's my point

Hey, @laurieluvsit is back! :)

@Curmudgeon Yes, hope Laurie had a good break. She'll be sorry she came back. ha ha

@Daniela1982 She might, but then again, some of us are compelled to return, lulz.

There’s no proof but there are strong suggestions that vegans or vegetarians live longer. Even among animals, herbivores live longer than carnivores.
And humans have more characteristics of a herbivore for example, flat blunt teeth. All carnivore mammals usually have long canines, humans do not.

Glad to see another intellectual around here

Carnivores, herbivores and omnivores all take life and eat it.
What's the difference between a plant and an animal? When you eat it, you have to kill it first.
The Food Chain is nature's way of feeding its creatures.
If we stop eating meat then the animals wins they’re stronger and survival of the fittest is an unspoken inherent absolute rule the fact that we are smart enough to kill skin and cook their asses is what keeps us from being somewhere lower on the food chain

And if you don’t eat meat, you will have to eat vegetables for food and vegetables also experience pain when they are eaten
It’s never ethical to eat meat or use leather goods however most people do it and still claim to be virtuous people.
we just like to pretend that we're not animals...
that's what ethics are
Ethics are the moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity, that’s part of what distinguishes us from animals.
that's right... subjective and convenient
that's why we pretend nowadays... and we're quite selective about it
there's absolutely nothing wrong with eating meat
