Yes and no. You will burn some fat regardless of what exercise you do. But generally to burn fat you need workout aerobically for 20 minutes or more. Your body doesn't want to burn fat. Your body tries to hang on to fat as a survival response ( in times of famine it can burn fat for energy when you're starving.) But after about 20 minutes of aerobic exercise your immediate energy stores start to become depleted and it'll start accessing fat stores. This is why most long distance runners have such low body fat.
If you want to maximize your fat burning aim for a submaximal heart rate of about 70% that's your prime fat burning zone.
In layman's terms that just means you want to keep your heart rate 70% of it's maximum rate
WhaT is that? Well here's how you determine it. Take 220 minus yor age (e. g. 25) that gives you 195 that's your maximal HR if you're 25.
Now simply subtract 30% from that. That gives you about 137. There you go try to keep your heart rate in that area of 137 beats per minute throughout your workout. And overtime it'll maximize your fat loss.
Good luck.
Nothing on its own can make you lose weight except for the food you eat itself - When it comes to losing weight it's all about your diet (counting calories and no refined carbs and unhealthy fat) - Running or anything cardio wise definitely burns a lot of fat but it won't do so unless you run more time than average (you won't be burning shit at the 10 minute mark but depending on your body you'll start losing a fat the more you get away from the 30 minutes mark) - If you do that with time you'll have a skinny body if that's what you want - Add more weight training and definitely more proteins to get muscle definition with it..
I heard running in the morning before breakfast burns more fat and if your healthy, running after black coffee might work too. But I don’t recommend it if you get thirsty easily.
It's been pretty darn effective for me.
Ignoring while I was pregnant, I've been pretty much the same weight since college and I have a pretty serious appetite !!!

Aerobic fitness is the kind of effort that burns the most fat, indeed. Provided you don't take the chance to pig out shortly thereafter because you saw a reduction on the scale.
Consider that if you test your weight shortly after a run, you'll always weigh less, as you consumed and perspirated water.
Again, it's also the best activity to burn fat, especially if practiced during the cold seasons. So it's burning fat to give the body extra energy and burn fat to increase heat to combat the external low temperatures.
So i was over 190 lbs and 36 inch waist 10 weeks ago. Only ate and sat around. I got up and jogged for 30 min Mon, Wed, and Fri. Speed didn't matter nor distance, just time.
I started eating less than half of what i normally would eat and i would eat healthy snacks like cranberries or vegetables throughout the day. I very much watched my calories as well. Now im 155lbs and 32 inch waist.
people made fun on my belly, had a beer gut. Now it's wow u lost weight dont get too skinny. Feels great
Yes and no, so first of all you need to know how “burning fat” works. Burning fat is the process of going into a hypo caloric state or calorie deficit which basically means you burn more calories than you take in or you burn more calories than you have. (hypo= less, hyper = more, hypothermia =less temperature, hypo caloric = less calories.)
(Calorie= the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water through 1 °C (now usually defined as 4.1868 joules). So running burns calories therefore it will start to “burn fat”, but if you have more calories than you burnt than it just depletes calories. So yes technically running or any movement really can burn calories, it won’t always burn fat
It does, but don't depend on running/exercise to maintain the best body composition of fat/muscle. Many, many 'runners' seem to feel that 'running' will allow them to 'eat what they want' and still maintain a good body composition. Once you adjust to that 'truism' you can move on to know that you do not have to run a certain amount to 'burn up body fat'. The real goal for any dedicated athlete, is to be able to eat what you "Need" for nutrition and endurance/speed et cetera, and NOT what you feel you NEED''
That can be a difficult balance, and one that is difficult to establish and maintain. I ran and raced competitively for more than 5 years, and trophied in several events including 5- and 10,000-meter events. Once I established a balance of calories-in-calories-out. I was able to concentrate on training more effectively.
Good luck

Let's put it into perspective:
The average amount of calories a male consumes daily is around 3000 (or about 1lb). Here is the catch tho, if you're pumping your body with processed foods (fast and junk food) on a regular basis, it will take your body longer to process those calories than it would say unprocessed food (fruits, vegetables, meats you get at your local butcher, etc.)
When exercising, it helps to keep track of about how many calories you're burning. Walking a mile usually burns around 250 calories. Next time you look at a nutritional panel and see where it says (based on a 2000 calorie diet) use that as a guide to get you started on how much you should be eating per day.
So if you can keep track of how many calories you intake and how many you burn, you should be able to see for yourself if you're burning the fat off your body.
Burning fat effectively comes down to creating a deficit.
Meaning if you eat 1,000 calories a day burn 1,500 or 2,000 calories basically burn more calories then what you eat.
But it's also more then that it also comes down to activity you can lose weight by just running but personally I find it better to do either weight lifting or a mix or weight lifting and cardio.
And the final piece is nutrition eat healthy, cut out or limit bad and unhealthy foods and eat as healthy as you can and make sure your body gets the vitamins, nutrition and nutrients it needs to function properly.
Geez you guys dont know shit about how to lose weight, walking is superior, if your going to run - sprint your fastest in short 5 minute burst that will elevate your heart rate, raise testosterone and growth hormone.
keeping insulin at baseline should be your main concern if your trying to use fat, Yea i mean use because after your glycogen store are depleted you switch from glucose to fat stores as a source of fuel.
which means you either need to either hit very heavy weights or moves really fast for 5 minutes at a time.
you could go on a water fast for 3 days that elevates growth hormone by 500%
If you are an average height/weight male and your diet stayed exactly the same for your maintenance weight you’d drop about a pound of fat for every 22 miles you jog… It’s a lot easier to cut calories and exercise to drop weight. If you drop your calories to like 1800 you’ll likely be close to your basal metabolic rate (but go do the math for your height and weight). Then walk/jog/run several miles every day and you’ll probably drop several pound a week.
Yes but it will break down muscle as well. The best workout regimens involve both weights and cardio. Also, weight-lifting continues to burn calories 24 hours after while cardio only burns fat then and there. Also, the risk of cardio-only is that, when the pounds fall off, you might get flabby skin, depending on the level of weight loss. Weight-lifting is what firms up the skin.
Not really.
You can be a total couch potato and still lose weight by cutting calories.
I have done this before. There have been times when I practically lived at the gym and failed to burn off a significant amount of fat. As soon as I started cutting back on my portions sizes and limited my snacking the pounds dropped faster than a frat girl's panties being propositioned by Chad Thundercock.
basically - yes.
every thing you do requires energy and running is more than most.
the real question is whether you are burning more energy than gaining. and gaining energy is dictated by your eating habits. so full answer - depends.
Show me a fat ultra marathon runner
Yes lol. Run enough and diet basically doesn't matter as far as fat loss is concerned. You will lose muscle without the bare minimum protein tho
Not if you eat too much. It’s only possible to lose weight by consuming les than you burn.
Depends.
Are you making a caloric deficit? If yes, then yes.
If you run for 1 hour and lose 400 calories, and have 2 Starbucks lattes after (in addition to your regular meal) - you will gain fat.
Depends. Slow/intermediate jogging for long periods can actually have the adverse effect as your body goes into a stress reaction and starts storing fat to save as energy after around 45 minutes of exercise. So your best bet for fat burning is either 1) short, sharp intense exercise (e. g., running intensely for a short period, interval training, weight training, etc.) or walking for a long period.
Yes but needs decent diet as well.
however if you start doing fast 10km runs and 5km runs, you burn calories.
You need to really push yourself and increase distance and speed.
Yeah this summer I ran like 10 miles 4/5 days a week but I also heavily restricted my food. I lost several pounds but also felt near death.
It can. It depends on your nutrition, how much exercise, your genetics, and if you take any 💊💉 to help with fat loss.
No, you can't out exercise a bad diet, cardio is all very well but if you're not in calorie deficit then your not going to burn fat.
Simple answer yes. I am a believer that you could change nothing and add running into your life and be a healthier person
You actually lose weight by watching what you eat and counting calories not because you exercise.
Any physical exercise will burn fat. The body is like a machine and a machine has to have fuel to work properly. Fat is the fuel that keeps the body working.
No. Whether you burn fat or sugar entirely depends on your current metabolic state at the time of running. Like if your blood sugar is high, you will not burn fat.
Cardio burns fat because fat is converted to CO2 and Water through the process of Some Science Shit. So overall, once you get off the water weight, you start breathing off your fat
Any movement will burn calories, Some more than others
No. That's a myth. That's why people at the treadmill at the gym don't lose weight.
yes, it burns calories and also will boost your metabolism which causes even more calories to be burned,.
It will help, but you have to eat healthy to actually lose weight.
It helps, but diet plays a huge part of that as well. Fast walking can also burn calories.
No. Quite the opposite if done wrong.
Burning fat is more to do with diet than exercise.
Minimally
you would have more success hitting the weights to build some muscle which will increase your Metabolism and help burn fat
However, nutrition is your best weapon to burn fat.
Yes but it depends on your heart rate too, if your bpm’s are too fast you are burning less than you could be, jogging may be actually better to optimize calorie burn, but it depends on you own body.
The only way to lose weight is to eat at a caloric deficit
And exercise regularly
@SlightlyEccentric you can exercise regularly but if you’re eating more calories than you but than you’re still going to gain weight
I'm saying regular exercise plus a lessened calorie in take diet (especially one deprived of processed foods) is a sure fire way to lose weight.
I guess it can also depend on the type of job you have too. A highly active job will see you burn a lot of calories where a desk job will see you burn not many. But yes I agree with you that a lessened calorie intake is vital to weight loss. All I'm saying is it should be combined with regular exercise.
Yes but eating healthy + running daily/weekly would be much much better.
*calloric deficit.
I can eat 2500 callories of healthy food and gain weight
To a point, yes. It will also change the shape of some muscles.
It seems like it because I've seen a lot of people say so
yes defo, also I've heard farts or burps burn fat too
Running burns calories not fat. You need to be in a calorie deficit to loose fat.
Not well. You're better off lifting. Also make sure you're eating clean--at the very least stop drinking calories.
I does and improves cardio BUT strength training and diet is the key
Yes to a point then gotta kept challenging yourself or gonna you plateau.
What are you trying to accomplish? Are you transgender/circumcised?
I've seen a lot of people lose weight just off running a mile a day
It will but watch at the same time what you eat. It all starts in the kitchen.
mmm also depends on what you eat :)
Only if you are in calories deficit
It will help, but change your diet too
Have you ever seen a fat distance runner?
If you got a weighted backpack sure.
What do you mean by on it's own?
Not as much as you would think.
It depends on what you eat
Depends. Carbs in vs carbs burned.
No , its calories in/ calories out.
Not as much as you think but a good diet is key
I believe activity helps!
yes to an extent
eat less, move more.
Yes.
