+1 yYeap. Both my parents are doctors, so they’re pretty health conscious. I’m not even allowed to eat junk food anymore. Oh, how even one of the simplest joys of life is stolen from me. 🙄
I go every year, but we have a family physician. My mum said she needs to run some tests because my periods are irregular. She said it is nothing to worry about, but I’m paranoid when it comes to my health (and it’s always important to stay healthy). After my mum’s cancer, I really don’t want anything like it happening to me in the future, (even though it isn’t really genetic - she has Non-Hodgkins which isn’t hereditary).
Both my parents are huge health freaks, so it is kind of a “house rule” or a better word for it - “mandatory” to go for a yearly wellness exam25 Reply- +1 y
@wonderbell99 Junk food is so 🤤

+1 yOh don’t even get me started on insurance issues, and people who work there who don’t know how to charge insurance companies properly, and then refuse the making of appointments… Thankfully there are dozens of the same complaints on their yelp feedback. *breathing emoji here which GaG would switch* Okay thanks for the vent. 😉

+1 yIt is important to do that. Though I haven't had a physical in a while and probably should do that along with other screenings to take in mind as I hit 30.

Absolutely agree! Some of the answers I see are kind of shocking. 😬
Well it's twice a year, and it's a bit more than a wellness exam, but yes I see my doctor often to make sure I'm still alive 😂

+1 yYes, my mother is a physician, and although I thank god she has never been MY physician (she is a trauma surgeon) she did instill in us the importance of annual checkups/physicals. So I go annually for a regular “family doctor” check-up, and every two years I go for a gynecological exam (at my age once every 2 years is fine), as long as there are no major issues or changes in my vaginal or vulvar health. And obviously at 19, I’m not even close to needing a mammogram yet.

Aside form dentist I don't do those check ups. They have these charts of "perfect values" one should attain (which by the way. they keep constantly amending) and it's impossible to score perfectly in all of them. So they prescribe drugs, which have horrific side effects hence more drugs and before you know it you find yourself in a health-downward spiral form which there is no escape. Best to stay away.
00 Reply943 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Where would I even go to get that and what would they even test? I haven't seen a doctor in at least.. 10 years?
12 Reply- +1 y
You’d go to your primary doctor you’d see for any problem. They do basic tests like listen to heart rhythm, check blood pressure, pulse, breathing, reflexes.
You are young so that would be about it. Pretty quick and noninvasive. Thanks for the opinion. - +1 y
I suppose I would have to find a primary doctor 😂 I moved to Canada from Europe, so I never set anything up besides the insurance.
That said, I should probably do something about my health, given that I can't walk for more than 10 minutes or my knee gives out. Ah well, I'm sure it'll go away over time.

😂😂😂 I have not been told this. I think they just ignore my height issues. Of course, I also work in the same office where I have my wellness exam so... not wise to upset the one who schedules. 😬

+1 yNope, how much does it cost? And is it safe?
16 Reply- +1 y
Depends on your doctor. I work in my father's office and it is not expensive for a basic wellness exam. It is more or less just checking basic health and you are done. Nothing major or invasive.
- +1 y
What tests do they perform?
- +1 y
It depends on what medical conditions, if any, you have. If you are healthy, it is simply checking breathing, heart rhythm, weight, pulse, reflex, etc etc. Very basic and done in about 10-15 minutes.
I take it you are healthy and that would be fairly routine. Doctors just want to see a record so they can keep track over time and detect changes in health. If healthy and depending on age, every other year is acceptable as well. - +1 y
How do they check reflex?
Never done it before - +1 y
Check knee and elbow reflex to make sure there are no neurological issues. Tap on the knee is all and your leg should "kick" involuntarily from it. Makes certain your nervous system is functioning at a basic level.
- +1 y
Oh, the one I've seen in movies where doctors hit people with hammer🔨? 🤔
No but I really should
