Can my dad see what I saw a healthcare provider for?

I am over 18 and live in Washington state. We have aetna insurance. I am still a dependent under my fathers health insurance. Will he be able to see what I saw a doctor for? Will the bill show details of my care?

Generally, the explanation of benefits he gets will give the following information:

Patient name; Dates of service; Procedure code; Billed amount; Allowed amount; Deductible; Co-pay amount; Amount paid

It shouldn't list a diagnosis, but the procedure code can tell him what was done... if he knows how to look it up. If you have concerns, you can call Aetna and request the procedure code be left off, but I doubt they want to process the claim by hand. You can also request all your EOBs are sent to you, but that all depends on what they are willing to do.

No he shouldn’t be able to. That would be a HIPAA violation. The only way he could see it is if you signed a release of information form giving the hospital authorization to give him your records. Not just to him but that’s how it is when it comes to anyone else who would try to get a hold of your medical records.

I don't know for sure but he probably has to go out of his way to browse through his insurance history to see it
