Have you ever had a traumatic doctors visit?

Today I went to see the dentist and OMG the pain! He took off my temporary crown for my permanent and he thinks when they were drilling my tooth it caused an inflamed nerve which is why it was so painful. He didn’t numb me when I said it hurt until I screamed and cried. I now see why some people are scared to go to the dentist.

YES!!! I hate going to the dentist , but I go regularly and I tell him if he is going to do anything that might even come close to being painful you better numb my ass first , he will be like , Welll you need to be flossing more on that one side , so that’s why you might feel pain , Wellll I didn’t Dude so I guess I am a bad person !!! , so you are going to torture me for it!! Yes, when I was age 19, I had my wisdom teeth taken out by this 86-year-old dentist all he did was numb me up, all I can say is I felt him pulling and yanking back and forth all that went through my head is if he slipped that one tool he was using to yank them out could have gone through my mouth and killed me wow I would never go to the dentist that age again.

My very first pap smear, the doctor used a speculum that was on the larger side, and being that I was a virgin and also had not birth I've since learned that type of speculum is considered a large size. I felt like it was going to tear me in half. I had sexual problems of tensing up with penatration for years after that. Sorry, I went annonymous because I feel embarressed by how tramatic is was.

Yes, the sexual assault exam in the emergency room after my uncle raped me! It was the worst night of my life, almost as bad as the many rapes I endured! I believed it would destroy my family! Luckily with the exception of him and his legal team, everyone sided with me!

Oh gosh I’m sure it was. I’m sorry you went through that. I used to do volunteer work that would have you be with the rape survivors while getting the rape kit done and some doctors are rough and seem pretty uncaring.

OMG that’s exactly what I do! I can’t believe it, I’ve never met anyone on GAG who has even heard of it, and some have accused me of lying, they said that “its a legal evidence gathering “procedure” and they would never allow “some volunteer in the room”! Why do men always try to explain our area of expertise to us? I can’t believe we do the same volunteer work! Are/were you connected to the hospital, or were you with a rape crisis center? I work with a rape crisis center, I talk to the girls/women, and we tell them the realistic picture of what they will face, legally like court depositions, discovery giving a list of every man you’ve ever had sex with, and the emotional, like the slut shaming the blame, the scorn, etc. then we try to get them to a hospital, and if they agree we offer to be there with them. Usually b/c we have a relationship with them they want us there, so I meet them at the hospital, and stay with them throughout the whole process! Thank you so much for reaching out to me, that means a lot. Im sorry you went through that too, just as I did! It was my 13th birthday when it began, he threatened me, and told me if I ever tell anyone about it, they would split up the family and it could be years before I see my parents again! So I did the exact same thing you did for volunteer work and it was for a rape crisis center. The center had counselors and attorneys that worked there. I don’t do it now but I did it when I was in college. I found out about it as a volunteer opportunity in one of my college classes from another classmate. Also, I’m not surprised some of the guys on here would call you a liar about that. It goes to show how ignorant some people can be.

Absolutely, yes on the guys who are ignorant! I learned about it from one of my therapists, and began helping out at the center, answering phones, doing initial screenings etc… But mostly working with underage girls like me. Once I turned 18, I began doing the heavy lifting as we discussed, staying with them during the post rape exam “rape kit” for the unfamiliar. I find it extremely depressing, but very rewarding! I wouldn’t trade what I do for anything. I’m a Psych major, and I am working towards my PhD. I hope to open my own low pay/no pay clinic for children who have been sexually abused, especially by family members, as I was. But we would not turn anyone away. Thank you for doing that while you were in college. I’m sure you helped many women.

I underwent a cystoscopy (having a scope inserted into my penis so the doc can have a look see) and it was very painful. I hyperventilated during the procedure which was done in his office. My blood pressure was so low they had me lie still and if it did not go back up soon that were going to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital.

I had the same for a scope to go up into the bladder. They used a cream lubricant that had an anesthetic in it. No pain. Something wrong with your doctor to not use that.

@Red_Arrow I had surgery 30 years ago to repair a crushed urethra. The resulting scar tissue resulted in making it difficult to insert the scope. The doc kept telling me to relax. I kept telling him he was going to have to reschedule this in the hospital so i could be anesthetized. He just pushed harder until he got it in. It was pretty rough.

It wasn't traumatic but more so just a strange experience as I felt the dentist break my wisdom tooth when taking it out. 😅 It didn't hurt but I definitely felt the pressure he put on it.

Yea when I had a c section I felt no pain but could feel the doctor tugging at my organs. That was a weird experience.

Oh, whatever you do, if you get root canal, let it be there. Don't get an artificial crown. They shorten the too and then put it there. Let it be shortened naturally over the ages. I had a root canal when I was 18 and now ten years later I thankfully don't need the crown.

And yeah dentist's are scary and I didn't become one 😁

I had a dentist that I went to for an abscess and he said the tooth was bad and needed to be pulled. Instead of waiting for the abscess to heal he just numbed it and went to pull it. I jumped and screamed and he had to numb it twice more before he could pull it. This was an old man that had been doing it for years.
I should have grabbed the players and told him to sit in the chair….

Yeah an evil doctor wanted to pretend I was mentally ill and gave me a drug that he said was supposed to treat my physical problems but it actually causes hallucinations. The hallucinations were so scary I wanted to kill myself.

I had several traumatic dentist visits over the years, which put me off visiting the dentist, but after finding a great dentist I'm over it now.

Never had such an experience with a doctor.

As for my traumatic experience, It's mostly been getting sick and having some shithead boss demand a sick note from a doctor. My family doc was on vacation and the temp demanded 200 dollars for the note, knowing that there was no time to go elsewhere.

Thankfully that kind of employer mandated sick note bullshit has since made been made illegal here. I think I signed a petition and wrote some official about it back in the day.
