I have been experiencing heart palpitations way too often these days. I first experienced it when I was in my late teenage years. Loud noises gave me heart palpitations. Happened once every year when people lit loud firecrackers during festivals. Now it's not just the loud sounds that gives me palpitations. I've been very stressed since the last few months, so whenever I hear some bad news or things get too much for me to deal with. I start experiencing heart palpitations and the effect last for hours. Do I need to just find ways to reduce stress? Or should I see a doctor already? I get scared of going to the hospitals since the pandemic. The only time I went was when my loved one was hospitalized. So, I just need to know whether this is normal when you're stressed.
+1 yHi I'm a registered nurse. If it's accompanied by chest pain you'd want to visit the Emergency Room, or if there are other concerning symptons, like loss of conciousness, jaw pain, arm pain, nausea and vomiting etc.
Outside of an emergency that fact that's it's lasted for hours would indicate to me that you need it evaluated by doctor. There is something call a holter monitor that you can wear for 24 hours of longer and it records what your heart rhythms are, often times a cardiologist will analyze the rhythms recorded and determine if treatment is necessary. I put some links below for more information. Good luck!

Not getting enough liquids can cause dehydration which can cause palpitations. Stress from many kinds of sources can cause adrenaline to be secreted into the blood stream which can cause palpitations. A change in diet can expose you to new allergens, or cause changes in blood sugar levels and increase the heartbeats.
Those are just a few of many things that can cause palpitations. Many of these things can be very serious. Only by seeing a doctor can you determine what is happening and be treated for it if necessary. It is not necessary to go to a hospital for most of the checks. Blood tests can tell a lot about what is going on. Electrocardiograms can monitor the hearts electrical signals and tell a lot. And an ultrasound of the heart can be done with the electrocardiograms to show what the heart and the blood in it is doing as well as the capacities of the chambers. Everything I mentioned can be done in the doctors office or a clinic, without going to a hospital.
So many possibilities. Even if someone on here was a doctor, they could not tell what is going on without examining you. Find a cardiologist soon!

Stress isn't the only reason. I had heart palpitations for 8 years. I got rid of it with a treatment method like angiography. The reason is that I have an unnecessary vein in my heart. The doctor neutralized that vein by freezing it. However you should definitely go to a cardiologist. In addition, if you consume cigarettes, alcohol and coffee, they also cause heart palpitations. A patient who drinks 5 cups of filter coffee a day comes to the doctor with the complaint of heart palpitations and the doctor tells him/her to drink a maximum of 2 cups of coffee a day. In this way, complaints of heart palpitations are reduced. I want to talk to you more about this topic

That drink/tea won't hurt you. Since you do not consume cigarettes, alcohol or coffee, there is another problem. You don't need to be afraid of angiography. You do not feel anything during and after the procedure. they will also put you to sleep during the procedure. So you will be very comfortable. Where do you live in India? How is the healthcare there? Can you come to the country where I live for treatment?
Not a doctor or nurse but anxiety, stimulants, stress, or sometimes medical conditions can cause heart palpitations. Based on what you've said here, I'm not diagnosing you with anything but this could be anxiety, and it wouldn't hurt to get checked out by a psychiatrist

+1 ynot a Dr. But I've had heart surgery and all the tests before that, and plenty of stress. I was under a lot of emotional stress at one point and went to hospital to get checked. Stress test and such, cleared my mind that it wasn't a physical problem.
Yes it's normal for durations of stress. In essence... your brain is telling your heart... to run... and it is. Some kind of fight/flight response. The cure is ending the stressors, or meditation to manage it. Changing your thinking.
That said, if you have issues, worth seeing cardiologist if you have breathing issues or energy, and just to clear your mind.
20 Reply 584 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. You need to see a cardiologist. There's no way to diagnose what specific problem you have without the appointment. If you don't know who to see in cardiology, ask your primary care provider. If you have a HMO, PPO, etc. then you need to make sure your pulmonologist is in the network. If you don't have one of those then, your primary care provider can still give you a list of "good" pulmonologists to see. Your primary care provider will probably want to see you before the pulmonologist, but I am betting that you'll need to see a specialist as well.
I am neither a doctor nor a nurse, but I have been connected to the medical profession directly since 2009, and indirectly from birth.10 ReplyIf this is genuinely your heart, don't be on GaG. Either make an appointment with your doctor or go to an emergency room or your country's equivalent.
45 Reply- +1 y
Sorry... I hope I didn't sound dismissive. Quite the opposite. If it is heart, that's urgent and you need it seen urgently. We on GaG would not benefit you. And, the doctors or nurses on GaG won't diagnose you here or prescribe treatment here so the end result will be telling you to go to your doctor.
m +1 yNot at all! I understand. I really appreciate your opinion. You were just trying to help me!
I am just terrified of going to the hospital and get myself checked. I guess I just wanted to hear that I just need to hear that I should get it checked especially from medical professional. So, I would stop postponing it.

But yes. It’s obvi stress. Anxiety. Could be a type of depression, which causes all that. Nothing to worry about really, all is very very treatable.11 Reply- 2.4K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.
+1 yDid you take any COVID shots? Also anything to do with the heart, including anxiety is all magnesium related.
24 Reply- +1 y
Ok, I asked because I know people who took those that complain about having the symptoms you just mentioned!
How much magnesium is in your diet? Are you on any medication? - +1 y
Although too much magnesium can cause heart problems, magnesium is essential for many body functions. Do not exclude magnesium from your body. And it is completely false that anything to do with the heart is magnesium related. Many problems with the heart are caused by things not at all related to magnesium.
You need to see a doctor. You are too young to have heart palpitations this often.
It might be nothing, but these are the kind of things you should never ignore. See a doctor immediately.21 Reply

Nobody in my family have heart issues but my dad had type 2 diabetes which raises his BP sometimes when the BSL gets high. Other than him, everyone is fine.
+1 yAnxiety does play a big part of what it does to our physical body. Right now I get fluttering in my neck and sometimes mild middle chest pain, but I also live under a lot of stress, so anything now days is possible.

+1 yYou're going to need proper diagnostic testing, although a good clinic could probably do it. Hospitals are pretty busy right now so maybe a decent family practice doctor is a better bet.

No problem. In the mean time you might find some chamomile tea helpful to relax after you have an episode. Good luck.
+1 yI go through that myself. A lot of it is based on anxiety and panic attacks. Take some bayer asprin to calm your heart and do deep breathing exercises while thinking of someplace pleasant to be. Also distracting yourself with something else to do helps
10 ReplyGenie.. I'm a 3rd year resident. If you ever have any chest or radiating pain call 911 right away. Otherwise, it is best that you talk to your doctor about it as it could be any number of things.

12 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. You definitely need to see a doctor. This is not a good place to get medical advice.
12 Reply- +1 y
Please do. There is nothing to be frightened of at all. I think the most common diagnostic method these days is a monitor (Holter monitor) that is a small round disk with no wires that you just stick on your chest for a few days, and then take it off and return it by mail. It records heart rhythms and its memory is downloaded and analyzed when you return it, and your doctor gets the results. Painless.

Just go to an actual professional and get it checked out. Hope you feel better though.
m +1 yI don't like to reveal personal stuff on forum, but I'm more scared for someone I've been taking care of lately. He's old. Was sick for a while and weak. That's why I feel scared to visit hospital and put him at risk, but I guess I'll try to get over the fear, be extra careful and get myself checked. Thank you!

More likely a panic attack, caused by anxiety. It seems more psychological. I suggest you to visit a psychologist first, before visiting a doctor.
