Let's say they're 12oz cans or bottles. And let's assume the high number of 180oz. That's "only" 15 beers. So approx 1 point something per hour. Not necessarily a lot. And, depending on the person, they might be able to metabolize that.

So, long way of getting to "not necessarily" as the answer to your question.

I'm assuming each glass was 20 oz.. They'd be drunk something along these lines
1 with lunch. 1 or 2 more before dinner. At least 1 cup of coffee WITH dinner, 3 or 4 more glasses between 8 p. m. and 1 a. m.. Some nights, maybe 5 glasses.

BUT, he didn't just sit around all day with a beer in his hand, the way my brother did. After breakfast and a trip to the shitter, he'd take a walk 20 to 22 miles up river, eat lunch, most likely with a beer, catch a bus back (or bus up and walk back) and then do stuff around the house or spend time in the pool or just take a nap for an hour or two. If dinner was still an hour or two away. He might have a beer or 2 while lounging at the pool or sitting on the front porch. After dinner, he didn't start drinking until `til 8:00 or so and would have 3 or 4 while watching t. v. and then go to bed no later than 1:00. if we had company or were at someone else's house for the evening, he might have one extra beer.

I'm asking because someone I knew claimed dad was an alcoholic but, although he loved his beer, I wouldn't consider him to be one. He never actually GOT drunk until about 10 or 12 at night and then would, shortly after, go to bed on his own and, even when I wouldn't consider him to be drunk, if he felt he was a tad tipsy, he'd refuse to drive home after a night out.
After we got a pool put in the yard, dad got a beer tap. He was the only one drinking here, unless others came over for a swim or a family get together. He/they would go through a quarter barrel about once every 8 to 10 days. Once my brother got old enough to drink (I never did drink) and got heavily into it, the two of them would go through a half barrel a week!! My brother, in his last couple decades, would get up in the morning, head straight for the beer tap and tried to bleed it dry all day long! He CLAIMED that he never got drunk but, there were quite a few times where he'd sit in the living room with a full beer in his hand, fall sleep, either in the chair or on the floor face down, and spill that full beer all over him, the floor and the chair!! And he'd still be there first thing in the morning!! Dad NEVER got that far!! Once he started getting a bit tipsy, he shut himself off and went to bed!! In his earlier years, he'd stay up to watch at least SOME of Johnny Carson. In his later years, he'd go to bed as soon as the news came on!!

I know that dad would get up at least twice er night to go to the bathroom after he went to bed but, I'll bet I matched him in root beer and hard ever got up to pee after going to bed.

People have different tolerances. You can build a tolerance. So a big bottle of alcohol may be a lot to 1 person and not the other person.

I know, my ex-fiance was not a drinker and got sloppy smashed on just one bottle. By the time we broke up 8 years later, she could handle MAYBE 2 bottles.

Per hour? Yeah but, that's not all that much. I use a 20 oz. glass and can empty it in 3 drinks in less than an hour! Quite often, I have to fill it at least another third per meal.
