Preparing for surgery involves following specific instructions given by your doctor or surgeon. These instructions may vary depending on the type of surgery you are having and your individual health needs. It is important to follow these instructions carefully to reduce the risk of complications during and after surgery.
In general, you may be advised to avoid eating or drinking anything for a certain period of time before your surgery. This is typically referred to as fasting. Fasting is important to reduce the risk of complications during surgery, such as nausea or vomiting, and to ensure that your stomach is empty so that anesthesia can be administered safely.
Your doctor or surgeon will provide you with specific fasting instructions based on your individual needs. It is important to follow these instructions carefully and avoid eating or drinking anything outside of the recommended time frame. You may also be advised to avoid certain foods or medications before surgery.
If you have any questions or concerns about preparing for surgery, it is important to discuss them with your doctor or surgeon. They can provide you with personalized instructions and advice based on your individual needs and health status.

I have had over 30 surgeries and unfortunately, your question didn't give enough information to give you proper advice. The biggest thing is what kind of surgery are you having?
Normally, you are not supposed to eat anything.

They should've covered this already with you.
You shouldn't eat 12 hrs before surgery. Don't worry about being hungry afterwards (I was). The anesthesia completely kills your appetite. I like to eat. And I swear I wasn't even hungry for like 3 days afterwards.
The doctor needs to tell you that depending on what the surgery is for, but usually you're not supposed to eat the night before or maybe up to 24 hours.
From what I hear you're not supposed to eat at all.
Rule of thumb: NO eating on the day of surgery.
Your doctor should have told you about these things.
They should have told you nothing but sips of water after midnight on the day of surgery. Absolutely no food.
It depends on the surgery. Just do what the doc tell you. Hope it all goes well with you.
