Who else can’t comprehend how horrible it would be to have some form of dementia?

It’s one thing if you get older, and your body starts to slow down. But to no longer have control of your own mind. That is incomprehensibly horrific. It feels like you’re basically dead at that point.

My MIL was dx with dementia a couple of years ago. So far it's been mild BUT she has never been the sharpest tool in the shed. She also has never been a "good-getter." I believe how much you did not use your brain when you were young matters when you are older.

Yes. I have listened to Everywhere at the End of Time, which is a music compilation inspired by the progression of dementia. It starts off bittersweet but a little pleasant and evolves into sorrowfulness, confusion, fear. I don’t blame anyone who gets diagnosed with a progressive incurable disease from taking themselves out first, if they choose to.

Worse than that, really- when you're dead, you don't feel fear. You don't feel the world slipping away from you, and see everything that you've done and accomplished torn away or mixed up while you're not looking.

Obviously, it's not always that extreme, and being surrounded by loved ones can probably help, but having seen how bad it can get...

It sounds quite horrible to me. A diagnosis of progressive dementia drove Robin Williams to suicide.
