Does the rash from poison ivy show up immediately, or does it take time?

i am highly allergic to poison ivy, and i was just out for a pretty long time helping my mommy in the garden. my arms itch and sting, but there’s no rash visible yet. i got in maybe three minutes ago.

Breakout the Benadryl spray just in case & as for me I always keep it on hand for emergencies such as insect bites, poison Ivy, oak, sumac, (Jellyfish Stings for me) & you can use if for a few other minor cuts & scrapes as well.

On the flip side remember the following.

1. Leaves of three let them be.

2. If it looks like rope don’t be a dope.

3. Longer Middle Stem, Don’t Touch Them

4. Hairy Vine, No Friend of Mine

5. Berries white, take flight.

You will know it very quickly. Get to a drug store and get some poison ivy soap and scrub down. The formula will help break down and remove the chemical bonds in the poison ivy. And if it isn't PI, you will still be nice and clean!

As far as I know, it takes a few hours. Dad always told me that if I think I've got it, get some soap and lather up the area you think you got it and don't rinse it off. That SHOULD get rid of it! I can't get it so, I have no idea if that actually works.

Take 2 benadryl tablets. Have someone get a couple bottles of poison ivy wash for you. Wash all exposed areas first with the poison ivy wash, rinse then wash your entire body thoroughly with it.
I'm highly allergic to it too. I've done this and I never got a rash from it. If it's been 3 hours you should start seeing bumps and getting ichy if you got the poison ivy

I would get in the shower ASAP, but I would have someone to check that you are okay in the shower, sorry about this :( Also was learned that poison ivy or poison sumac was a shiny red looking thing, but I could be wrong?

But according to a quick Google search it can be anything from immediate to something that shows up after 2-3 weeks...

I am far from an expert. I stay away from that. But I remember when I was a kid it would show up fast.

I don't think I would know it by sight. All I know is that it has 3 leaves and can grow vines up trees.

@YesterdaysChild... it was bad for me because one of the ways you tell it apart if I remember correctly is that the leaves are red. I'm color blind.

Yes, I was out camping once, and I ended using poison ivy (without knowing what it was) to wipe myself down there after I did my business.
