They either lose purpose or haven’t yet found purpose. They become sedentary and watch others achieve what they couldn’t. It forces them to self reflect. They didn’t make the choices they could have. Others acted when they didn’t. Rather than accept accountability, continue to grow and improve, they belittle and demean as a way of justifying their twisted perspective. They perceive that those who CAN DO somehow took advantage of them. And they spiral into a bitter, self destructive rage, pushing others away and eventually rotting until there is nothing left.
Oh my god you are so clever. I've had to live with a bitter narcissist mother in law and I think you completely hit the nail on the head. But one thing that you didn't mention which I also think is true with regards to her is that she did have a career from a young age as an actress and supported her family so she still has this "I'm better then you attitude" but I can see that she had a terrible marriage with a much older man I think she thought getting married in those days was the only way to leave home and then had this horrible controlling husband. So that's the narcissist part but besides that she is one bitter sick lady.
@yikesyikesyikes as a child of two narcissistic parents, I can totally relate. It’s not to say they haven’t sacrificed for you as their child. It’s just their sacrifice comes with expectations, as if you’re property. As if you are an extension of their life. For such people love is always conditional and failure to meet their “desirements” results in shame. Disappointment. Guilt.
completely. I see that all the time from her.
I'm not unattractive and bitter , I guess it depends on the individual and where they reside and what they have to fulfill their lives.
Who knows.
