Elliptical machine definitely helped me. Working out for 45-60 minutes 3-5 times a week is probably a good workout goal and not only will it tone your body but you will feel much healthier and it will benefit your body in so many ways
Here's some general food rules that always help weight control to an extent.
Remember...portion control. Unless it's vegetables then you can eat a lot of them. (Except for high starch potatoes and corn)
Salads are your new best friend. You can embellish them with some lean protein like chicken or egg slices.
Avoid carbonated drinks, they bloat
Do not drink soda. Even the diet is bad for you and too much artificial sweetener does not help weight loss. And regular soda is REALLY a weight gainer, high fructose corn syrup goes straight to fat in your body.
Cut out sugar as much as possible. Avoid candy cake and other sweets.
In general avoid artificial sweetener as much as possible.
Try your hardest to avoid white flour and get whole wheat or whole grain instead
Buy the low calorie whole grain fiber breads
Limit the amount of cheese you have, it is fattening
When you are hungry snack on fruits and vegetables, esp vegetables. You are supposed to have like 4 servings a day. When I get hungry I try to cut up a pepper and dip it in light ranch dip. Vegetables can get annoying but they are filling and healthy
Drink a lot of water. In fact fill up on it. It cleans out your system and fills you up. You may have to pee more and that gets annoying but drinking water at meals instead of other drinks definitely makes me feel like I digested my food better and it isn't sitting all heavy on my stomach hours later.
Try to have leaner meat like fish or chicken (not fried) rather than red meat

to get a fast metabolism eating breakfast in the morning is very important. if you continue to eat throughout the day say a small snack every two hours then it will keep your metabolism up. also you get a higher metabolism by eating spicy foods.
exercise to help you lose weight quickly would be mainly running and other intense cardio activities (if it gets your heart rate up that's the kind of activity you need to be doing). things such as kickboxing, jumping rope, obstacle courses etc. this allows you to lose weight all over and quickly and once your weight is down you can target specific areas to tone, but toning isn't helpful if it is covered by layers of fat, so cardio first then toning.
If you want to lose weight, you need to BOOST your metabolism! :)
In order to do that, it's important to eat, not necessarily any certain type of food, but to eat right, and in the right amounts throughout the day. It keeps your body in a fat-burning "zone".
Start off by making sure you eat breakfast... Supposedly it's really good to eat a breakfast that is higher in protein, hence why it's good to eat a couple of eggs and such. But really it's probably good to just eat anything, it gets your body working regardless. A lot of people skip breakfast anymore, so just eat something.
And then they say eat smaller meals/have a healthy snack throughout the day... I'm not sure if it works any better than eating the standard "3 meals a day" but either way, just stay away from junk when you can, including fried foods, avoid drinking soft drinks on a regular basis, or TRY to eliminate them entirely (this will be difficult, but it's good for you... people have been known to drop about 10 lbs. in just a year without drinking soda alone).
I'm not expert on this subject... I tell you this as I'm eating an ice cream sandwich, between two chocolate chip cookies, hahaha, so I don't know if I'd trust my answer all that much! xD
Walking and Jogging are the easiest. You would need foods with Omega3 acids to get the highiest metabolism. Omega 3 acid is usualy found in differant Fish and Nuts

why would you want your metabolism low? do you mean how to keep it high?
Running cuts my fat pretty fast. But I don't have too much fat, remaining active boosts my metabolism through the roof
