Do you know how to swim?

Question

No I dont, but I plan to learn soon. my father always tells me it is a useful skill just incase you're near a body of water somehow, and something happens.

if you do know how to swim, how did you learn?

Yes, I can swim. And I taught my best friend when we were kids. My mom was scared to death of water, but she made sure my sister & I could swim.

If your father tells you this, why didn't he teach you to swim? I do not understand this at all.

Teaching a child to swim is actually the #1 most self esteem builder. It let's a person feel they can learn & do just about anything.

Yeah. I learned how to swim at a very early age. My parents signed me up for lessons and within a few years I was practically a fish. Taking lessons would probably be the best and safest option for learning to swim, but if your parents know how they could probably teach you.

I took swimming lessons as a child. That is how I learned how to swim. It's not that bad and the lessons teach you good safety skills, like boating and lifesaving things. Swimming is a good skill to have if you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to swim.

I can swim & dive to a point.

I can't swim laps because I breathe too often, too deeply & hyperventilate.

Your dads right.

You can go skiing, tubing, wake boarding, surfing, sailing, canoeing, the water park & a lot of other fun things.

Learn to swim.

My Dad took me to the neighborhood park dist. for swimming lessons when I was about 10.

My parents never could afford lessons. But I went swimming a few times trying to teach myself. After about the 5th time I went in the pool I could swim around. I wouldn't consider myself good at it by any means but I can do it.

Yep! I took lessons when I was a kid. I'm not like super great at it or anything, but I can get by. You should definitely learn. Even the most basic swimming abilities could help save your life, you never know.

Yeah, I only know because my dad loves swimming and so taught us how to swim. It is a useful skill, you can't do many fun water sports if you don't know how to swim. And if you fell into a pool of water, you wouldn't drown.

Yes I'm a competitive swimmer. Best sport ever. I started taking lessons when I was 7 (?) And joined a club at 11. I now swim for a high school team August through November and for the club the rest of the year.

Yeah I've been swimming almost all my life. I'm not the best at it, but I was a total water baby as a kid. I think its a good skill to have. I learned through lessons, I guess.

I don't think I do. We did swimming lessons when I was 10 for a few months but I don't think I really got the hang of it tbh. I would never be allowed to swim in the deep end.

Learned how to swim from my cousins when I was 5-6 years old. Went on to join swimming lessons during elementary school since it was a mandatory part of our curriculum. Been going strong ever since.

Yeah. I learned because as a small kid, my dad used to throw me in the water when we'd go to the beach and it was pretty much sink or swim.

I have been swimming since I was 3 years old. I started taking classes at a really young age and I used to be on a swim team and I won several medals :)

Now, I swim for fun. It's the most relaxing and fun sport that's the perfect stress relief :)
