Is there any person that didn't have a traumatizing event in their life or somebody you know that didn't?

PTSD post traumatic stress disorder/I'm so sure everybody is familiar with the term. It's been plastered all over everything since they invented the term a few years after the first Gulf War.

PTSD was originally called "Shell Shock" in the First World War. Where it was recognised the sufferers were sent to asylums for rest, but where the sufferers had wandered off the line a lot ended up being shot for cowardice because it wasn't understood.

By WW2 it was better understood, but again rarely seen outside those who had seen military action.

These days apparently it can be caused by slow WiFi on a lefty college campus. Because that's as traumatic as watching the guy you're standing next to literally getting his head blown off by a mortar shell... 🙄

Yes, i have heard ALL the tripe on ptsd. And I understand how it's easily mistaken for a bit of undigested potatoe. What I don't understand is how some consider having been in a short little war to be equivalent to an entire childhood. But I may understand it some day.

Remember when they first started pushing depression? It started popping up on commercials and then a couple years later everyone and their fucking mom claimed they had it.

Funny though... I'm currently trying to get VA money for PTSD among other shit. Free money brah. I worked too much to ever work again. As soon as my wife retires (already over 20 years), I just want to drop out of society.

Many people have had an “event”. Some of us can’t unlive it and have physical responses years after the fact. Similar to flashbacks of the Vietnam era, I for one completely lose myself and control during my worst episodes. It was hard for me to admit my disability because I thought it would be admitting weakness. But acknowledging it has helped me work with my disability and has given me tools to cope and adapt to “normal” life.


While some people experience traumatic events and have no lasting physical effects, a true ptsd disabled person relives the physical and mental trauma on a constant basis and escalates quickly or instantly to certain triggers.


While it’s easy to not understand an individual’s reaction to something that does not affect you personally, it’s more beneficial to give the other person the benefit of the doubt. They might not even know the true reason behind their reactions due to the brains natural survival and coping mechanisms.


As a victim of child abuse I have learned I suffer from ptsd and have learned some of my triggers and learned to avoid those situations.


As a combat veteran I have learned the same.


It’s not to be mocked but to be understood because it’s as real as a physical injury such as being paralyzed or loss of a limb. It’s just harder to see and understand.


It’s similar to my hearing loss, where people tend to think I’m just ignoring them when I truly can’t hear them properly.


Nobody mocks a wheelchair bound person and judges them for not walking properly.


True that there are hypochondriacs of every affliction but you should be careful to judge.

I'm sure you can appreciate this as it is, what seems to me to be ample juicy in it's research size. Try to distinguish people in one of the two categories.

I've had conversations with the people in my life... so, I know they don't have diagnosed PTSD

That's kind of what I was searching for. Or the back side of the coin. It would seem that every lid happens upon some trauma while growing up. No matter if it's physical or the much more cruel being on the mental side.
