Would you like to live to be 112 years old?

I saw the world's oldest man on TV yesterday. He was 112 years old. . He still had most of his marbles and he had a positive attitude. He said all things in moderation and to keep active. I worked with somebody whose father was a doctor and he live to be 104 she said that God did him no favors. I don;t know what to think. Maybe it would be cool to see all the new inventions and developments on the next 50 or 60 years.

I read somebody's obituary a few years back. He died at 105. He fought in WW1 . He drove an ambulance afterwards and was working the day of the great Boston Molasses Flood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Molasses_Flood
He did many other fascinating things during his life. I thought about how cool in must have been to see the development of the airplane and then witness the first manned flight to the moon. Seeing heart transplants and the atomic bomb and all the other amazing inventions.

Oh god no! Now I’m sure that if I make it to age of 111, I’ll probably WANT to live at LEAST another year, likely a lot more than that. But at almost 22, I’m fine with dying right before my bowels, bladder, brain and body give out! 80 seems like a nice round number! I think dying at somewhere between 80 and 90 seems more than enough time. I mean could you imagine living in God’s waiting-room at 80, and being told you still have another god-awful 31 years left to decompose in a urine-stenched nursing home? While you are technically still alive, and your mind (absent organic or disease based dementia) is still okay, so you’ll feel exactly the same way in your own mind as you did when you were a teenager. But you'll now have the wisdom to know how terrible your life truly is!

I genuinely believe that quality of life is infinitely more important than just the quantity of years lived! What person will ever plan in their retirement to live to 112 years old? Even if you knew, how DO you plan for a 47yr retirement? You won’t be a burden on your friends or family, because your spouse died 40 years ago, and your last living child died 15yrs ago! What a hellish nightmare to live long enough to see everyone you ever loved die! No thanks. I’d like to die with peace and dignity, when my children still have the ability to chew solid food! Quality over quantity guys. How many times do I have to answer on this site that “It really doesn't matter how long it is, it’s what you do with it that matters”! This time I just happen to be talking about lives instead of penises! 😆. (I’m sorry, but that one wrote itself).

Yes, I have some friends that have already died. I am feeling sort of lonesome already. I never expected to live this long and it is a little surprising.

@Maybe_Maybe_not Thank you! I love the thought of being enigmatic. I’m just blessed to have two extremely high IQ parents, who both stressed the value of education. That combined with my studying psychology since I started college almost 6 years ago, and reading almost obsessively, gave me a well rounded outlook on life. I’m under no illusion that knowledge is even remotely a substitute for true wisdom, but with enough knowledge, at least pseudo-wisdom, is pretty easy to replicate in writing. Trust me, I still make plenty of stupid mistakes in the real world. But I’m learning.

Wait! You never expected to live to 53? You’re pretty close to my mother’s age, and I still think of her as being very young! She is so full of life, and was telling be recently that she doesn't plan to retire for at least another 20 years. She knows the likelihood that she won't be able to be a surgeon for that long, but she says she can always either just practice emergency medicine, or failing that she can go into teaching! Never just give-up! You are still relatively young, now is the time you are supposed to be working less and enjoying life more! You need to get out more! Seriously, you need to find an organization that offers free classes, or a group of hobbyists with whom you can get out of the house at least once a week, and share a common interest! My brother just became a Ham radio operator. and he loves going to all of the events. He used to just sit in his room playing video games all throughout his teens, until he got a girlfriend when he was about 17, and he missed out on SO MUCH, as a result. Now he’s a deputy sheriff, so the cop community is very close, and now he says he has 850 new brothers (and sisters). That combined with his ham radio friends, and he’s just started a photography course, so Kurt is extremely busy with work and a very active social life. Friends are not going to knock on your door, you have to get out there and do stuff! The friends will just come as a result of you putting yourself out there.

Oh I know that information is not experience, else things would be very different for everyone on earth lol. From what I read from you, you combine the best of both worlds, analytical and emotional intelligence. That is a rarity to me, as I've seen a lot of intensive brains being just brains, and totally lacking in spirit.

i have the same outlook as the 112 yr old. I am not surprise if I live till then. all the women in my family lived into their 90s even during war time.

I would be happy to see my future grand kids, great great great grand kids.
I want to past down my positive outlooks in life, our traditions, family values and our family business. I want to tell them about their grand parents, their great great grand parents, how their ancestors went from having nothing to get to where we are.

I want to continue to contribute, help those in need as long as I am capable.

When I turned 40 ish… I am felt peace in my heart…I knew if I go for whatever reason, at anytime…I have done well.

I don't see me lasting that long, so will aim to serve and live the best I can in the time I have. I figure the only time I have, is right now, I try not to think in the future, since it doesn't exist:)

My father lived to be 98 and I have his genes. If I'm still healthy, mobile and have my brains, I'd be happy living to a ripe old age. I guess we'll just have to see what that age will be for me.

my father lived to be 70. I never thought of him as old but he just went to work one day and he died. I am trying to make my own life expectancy.

I would. I've always had a fascination for people who live until they're 100 years old or more. They see everything changing, they know how it was before and how it is now.

The sad part of it is that they see a lot of people dying. They might feel lonely.

If I can even move properly still and take care of myself without needing to sit in bed on life support for 23 hours a day then yes, that would be nice. My plan or the plan, is for me to live to at least 100 and retire around 91-98.

Hell no! I don't want to look like an old prune. Besides, most of the people you were friends with, as well as your family, are most likely dead. You would also most likely be living in a care home with Alzheimer's.
