Such as stress, anxiety, depression etc..
1 yTry to become aware of your emotions, and letting them run their course. People try to fight and resist their emotions, which never work. Like going out drinking heavly, drugs etc.
When it comes to feeling you have to be disciplined with them and not allow them to run your life. Just like you are disciplined for studying for exams, getting up for work etc. You have to do the same with your emotions, and your thinking.
When I get negative thoughts I don't dwell on them, negative thoughts don't mean anything about you. You are never going to stop getting negative thoughts, but you have to discplined and don't feed them
This a story about negative and positve emotions:
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. He tells the boy:
"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil—he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego."
He continued, "The other is good—he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you—and inside every other person, too."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
The story emphasizes that our thoughts and attitudes shape who we become. By choosing to "feed" the positive, good thoughts and emotions, we cultivate those qualities in ourselves. Conversely, if we focus on negative or harmful thoughts, we strengthen them. It’s a lesson in mindfulness, responsibility, and the importance of focusing on what we nurture in our minds.

Many people are deeply affected by negative criticism, whether it’s being told, "You’re not good enough," or "You can’t achieve that." These words sting because, at some level, we already carry doubts and insecurities within ourselves. The hurt often comes not just from the outside but from the fact that we believe those negative thoughts. When we struggle with self-doubt, it’s easier for external criticism to find a home in our minds.
There’s a powerful quote that says, "If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do you no harm." This speaks to the idea that once we overcome our own internal battles—self-doubt, negative self-talk, and insecurity—then no outside force can truly shake us. When we build self-confidence and trust in ourselves, external criticism loses its power. It’s like having an internal shield; criticism will bounce off because we no longer give it permission to affect us.
Overcoming the enemy within—those doubts and negative thoughts—is the key to overcoming everything else in life. Once you conquer that internal struggle, you’ll find that the opinions and judgments of others hold far less weight. Your confidence grows, your sense of self-worth strengthens, and your life starts to transform. The only limits that truly exist are the ones you place on yourself, and by defeating those limits, you open up limitless possibilities. Many people are deeply affected by negative criticism—whether it’s being told, "You’re not good enough," or "You’ll never succeed." These words hurt because, at some level, we already believe them. Our own negative thoughts and self-doubts make us vulnerable to external criticism. When we allow our minds to be filled with self-defeating thoughts, it’s easier for outside opinions to reinforce those beliefs.
There’s a powerful quote that says, "If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do you no harm." This means that if we can discipline ourselves to conquer the negativity within, then no external criticism or feedback can truly harm us. The real battle is not with what others say, but with our own internal dialogue. If we can take control of our thoughts, replacing self-doubt and negativity with confidence and resilience, then criticism from others loses its power.
Being disciplined in mastering our negative thoughts is key to overcoming not just the inner struggle, but also the negative feedback we get from others. It’s not easy, but through consistent effort, we can change the way we think about ourselves. This discipline allows us to handle criticism more constructively, viewing it as an opportunity to grow rather than something that can shake our self-worth.
In the end, overcoming the enemy within—our self-doubt, fear, and negative self-talk—is the key to overcoming everything else in life. When we become disciplined in shaping our thoughts, we take back control. Criticism no longer defines us; instead, our self-confidence and inner strength define how we respond to the world. The path to conquering external challenges starts by mastering the mind and silencing the negative voice within.

Think about what's causing it,
if it's something like money/friends/romance/self esteem
just fix it
if it's something vague or longstanding, like whether you'll be successful in life, or whether you're the best you you can be.

I don't let it have too much rent space in my head.
This takes practice to do it but after a while it will be automatic.11 Reply

Only these methods work for me.00 Reply

1 yI usually get through it by talking to and spending time with my friends. When my friends aren’t around, I try to heal by listening to music. It’s harder, but there’s nothing else I can really do. What do you suggest?

Ofc it’s harder said than done but someone just now told me a way is to be aware of your emotions and negative thoughts, acknowledge them but don’t dwell on them, and that we will never really be able to escape from them but we can learn to disciple them. Like how our emotions don’t have to run our lives and the negative thoughts shouldn’t be dwelt on because they don’t mean anything about us and then he told me this amazing story.

Yes, it seems like a story that truly reflects reality. It happened to me as well. I became this way because I always nurtured joy, peace, love, hope, compassion, and all the good things within myself. But there’s a downside to it. The bad wolves in the story always harm the good wolves. How are we supposed to protect ourselves from them?

Thank you for the story. It will help me. Do you have another story on how we can deal with bad people?

Thank you for your valuable advice. We must not let them change the love within us, but it is very difficult to achieve this. One feels sad in every way and there is a pain in the heart.
You can't protect yourself from negative thoughts or the bad wolf, but you have a choice which one to listen to. Negative thoughts are like bad people or anything, you get to choose what to let in.
You have to be disciplined in your thinking like everything else in your life. For example, if you didn't feel like going to work some mornings, you would lose your job. But you chose to get up and push through those feelings, because you need money. Not everything you think and feel about things or life, is reality. Emotions are not reality. You could chose think everyone hates you at work etc, but thats not reality. But if you keep thinking like this, eventually you will make your thoughts a reality and everyone will hate you at work.
People who commit suicide, most of time think their world has come to the end and there's no way out of their situation, again this not reality. Its their thoughts and constantly feeding those thoughts, which makes them follow through with their actions. No offence to the people who do this. Obviously a very sad situation all involved in suicide cases.Freddie mercury made a very powerful statement which he said to his band regarding HIV. Quote, I don't want to talk about illness, or think about my illness, I have a life to live and just want tomake music until I die. He chose to feed the good wolf and not the bad wolf. He chose positive thoughts over negative thougts regarding HIV.
1 yI feel it, find the cause, process it as best I can and then release it. This usually means feeling bad for like an hour and being dramatic about it before I get over it.
