Do you have any advice for wisdom teeth removal recovery?

With my family beach trip coming to end I have to get ready for my upcoming surgery on Tuesday so if you any advice regarding the recovery process I'd love to hear it 😊

Take the meds they give you. They gave me oxy but I was so afraid of the side effects I roughed it out with aleve and advil. Don’t do that, take the meds.
Also, keep an eye on if you feel nauseous or not after the surgery. If you’ve never gone under anesthesia before, it’ll be a good way to see how you respond to it, some people get nauseous (I did) and will always be nauseous after going under. This way, if you have any other surgery that requires anesthesia, you can tell them to give you anti-nausea medicine.
And at-home saline rinse is just as good as what you get in the store so don’t stress about that too much. Rinse and gargle with it once a day for the first week and it helps ward off infections.

I'm allergic to pain meds.
Mine were all facing forward and came out in 12 pieces. My jaw swelled up four times the size.

Walk. Circulation is important and reduced the swelling dramatically.
I hope you can tolerate the stronger meds.
Keep those surgical sites clean and flushed.

Basically take the pain meds, get some rest and figure on a week to 10 days for the swelling to go down. It is not a fun procedure but it is doable. I remember that after i got the stitches out a couple of days after that the swelling went down even ore and i discovered that they missed a couple of stitches. I took them out myself.

So, I was going to drive out to Colorado with another kid maybe forever. I planned on getting a job and moving out there. I had impacted wisdom teeth and wanted to get them pulled out before i left. I told this kid that we would go after the procedure.
So the day of the procedure it was determined that i had a throat infection and they could not stick the tube down my throat. The doc wanted to reschedule but I asked if he could just give me novocine. He said it would be rough but he could do it. He was right about the rough part. Especially when one of my teeth broke while he was pulling it out and he had to tap a screw into the pieces and pull the pieces out one by one.

It took a week for the swelling to go down and i called this other guy to tell him i was ready to do. His mother told me that he left without me. I was really pissed especially since I helped him fix up his cr so it would make the trip.
However, I was still in town a week later to go up to where my family has a vacation house and meet my future wife.

Ask for sedation if you are nervous or it is suggested. Get a prescription for good pain medication in case you need it. Follow all the after care instructions. If you are bored at home during recovery, chat with your GAG friends to pass the time.

I can't speak directly about your oral surgery, but growing up i quickly learned that dentists were evil , sadistic, mean sadistic people who enjoy the screams and stark terror they invoked just by introducing themselves as dentists. ( im kidding)[ mostly], seriously , I hated going to the dentist, for many years i did not see one, in 2004, I lost a filling and broke the tooth. It caused considerable discomfort , but I was certain that tomorrow it would be fine. Well tomorrow never arrived , finally, I decided I was probably making things worse the longer I waited. I picked up the phone handset, and with trembling fingers I dialed ( look it up) 411 and got the number for a nearby dentist. I was disappointed to find out they could see me first thing the next day. I barely slept that night,
-DENTAL APPOINTMENT DAY-
I drove the 4 blocks to the dental office and after circling the block 4 times I realized the parking lot wasn't going to fill up denying me a place to park so, I did. I climbed out of my car, and stood still , listening for the usual agonizing shrieks of pain as people signed in for there appointments, strange I heard only the wind blowing past , being a former engineer, I realized that great strides in technology had been made in sound proofing and it was a smart move not to scare off clients before they entered, I walked across the parking lot feeling like a burly guard should have announced "dead man walking". I reached the main entrance door, and after a deep breath, I yanked the door open and stepped quickly in. Listening to the sound of air handlers in the building and nothing else. I announced myself to the desk, and quite soon was seated in one of those big oppressive dental chairs. A lovely young women introduced herself and asked what was up. I showed her the issue, and she looked at my exrays ( taken on way to exam room. She said it looked painful and I had 2 . ore cavities. She started looking into my mouth and shot me full of novacaine. I noticed this involved a smaller normal looking hypodermic needle unlike the ones I remembered which were steel and had small steel finger holes at its upper end so they could really get some traction doing the injections. This made me feel quite a bit better even though I was certain the worst was still coming. The lady seemed to be taking quite awhile exa. ing my mouth what felt like poking and prodding , I was still dreading the "drill" which were loud vibrating beasts that I think was the worst thing about dentists visits. About 20 minutes into it I was starting to fear that she'd found complications , she vacuumed the saliva from my mouth while removing those gauze rolls all bloody I didn't even know they were in. She dabbed in my mouth a couple more times then removed the bib and the suction tube, said that should be good
I asked what's the problem she looked a bit puzzled , why can't you fix it i asked and she looked at me saying "its fixed" good as new, now I looked puzzled , no way , she handed me a mirror and incredibly my broken tooth was gone and she'd even had to stitch a couple times but I was seriously stunned, she suddenly got it ," when was last time you saw a dentist?" About 15 maybe 20 years ago, she looked amused and horrified.
There had been so many advances made in technique and technologies that all my terror and fear were no longer relevant, she'd just removed a broken tooth and stitched my gums all without me being aware of her doing anything , the marquis de sade novocaine injector , and the drill that belonged in a Stephen King novel, all items from history. I still hadn't quite grasped all of it and before I left I asked about the possibility of pain pills for when the novocaine wore off. She shrugged saying" you won't need them"I remember thinking she couldn't be right, she was in never felt a thing.
This has all been a tongue in cheek way of hopefully giving you a little peace. The fears I mentioned , absolutely real. But the actual procedure couldn't have been more painless and stress free , I went back a few weeks later and got my cavities fixed. Ibelieve that the surgery your facing should be almost as pain free, at least thats what I've heard from others who recently had the experience your facing. I know you were looking for advice on healing , hopefully this gave you a giggle or two, and your surgery will go great. Good luck

Kinda surprised you waited this long though don't most people normally get that taken care of when they're a kid or teens?

They come in at 17 I believe
