I've always hated walking because it takes too much time to travel from A to B, but I've walked up in the hills in beautiful scenery for long distances in the past. I've ran cross country for my school, and every now and then I do go out for a jog, but it always amuses me when I see unfit people jogging no faster than walking pace, and embarrassing themselves. I'm a sprinter though I'll never win any prizes, but at least I do look good when I sprint down the road for whatever the reason. I prefer cycling for keeping fit, and I would advise everyone to give up walking and running if they want to keep fit etc. and take up cycling. Cycling is better for your joints, and people don't look as embarrassing on a cycle like they do when trying to run.

@NoDecision At times, yes, it has been known to kick up. Too many oatmeal cookies at a recent party.
5 moA run usually. But I try to run on trails most of the time. No cars and trees provide shade. So there's a fair number of water crossings, mud, steep rocky sections, and narrow sections with tree roots and rocks sticking up. You have to slow to a walk or a jog or risk twisting and ankle and going face down on the trail. And yes, I go face down occasionally. part of the fun of trail running.

5 moI walk. I learned very early in life that I am a sprinter, and do not have the endurance for any run longer than a few minutes. I can walk for hours at a time though. It's a great form of exercise. Gets the heart rate up without putting undue stress on leg muscles and knee and ankle joints.
10 Reply 584 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. At the current temperatures we're experiencing, anyone who runs will be lucky to not die from heat stroke. It's brutally hot, even at 8am. 85 and climbing, with a heat index of 100+. This is the beginning of summer and looking at the extended forecast, we might get rain by the end of the week, the only time it's in a double-digit percentage chance. Even then it's below 40%. All the highs, even after the possible rain are over 90.

Last time I went, I tore a calf muscle, and was off for several weeks.
