My moms friend moved in with me 7 months ago. she's 68. She has walking issues from chronic alcohol abuse, but she quit drinking 2 weeks ago. She has good days and bad days, but she is still fall prone everyday. She has to use a scooter when we go shopping everytime, and I have to hold her hand when we are walking through the parking lot. Well, we went to see her doctor a couple of days ago. She said she wanted to do physical therapy, and the doctor was gonna have a company come to my house to do that. I also said that im afraid to leave her home alone, and her doctor said that we could do in home care too. I felt better than I had been feeling about it lately, but my mom picked me up today to go do some errands. She was in my house for a little bit, and came out. She told me her friend got up from bed and said she feels good, so she's gonna tell them not to come when they call. My mom said she needs to do physical therapy, and she said "oh no they aren't gonna do physical therapy. They are gonna come help me take a shower. Thats all I need help with" which is untrue because she's fallen several times since she moved in. Also if she still needs me to hold her hand when she walks, and has to use a scooter in the store then she could definitely benefit from physical therapy. My mom, and sister want to sit down with her, and tell her that iether she does physical therapy to make it easier on me, or she has to live somewhere else. I feel an ultimatum isn't the way to go though, but im still angry with her. Im thinking that when the in home care people come to help her take a shower, they will be able to tell exactly what kind of care she really needs.

So I remember your post from when you had this lady in the ED and wanted to know if she should go to a nursing home.
Yeah... my reasoning still stands. She she is falling and seems to have terrible safety awareness. Either you guys get her into a facility soon, or she is going to fall and get hurt very bad and end up stuck in a facility with a debilitating injury.
Well, she hasn't fallen in 3 months, so i think she's doing better, but I know she's still more likely than the average person to fall. Like I said she has to use a scooter at the store so
Your mom and sister are right to give her that ultimatum. She's staying in your house so she should be respecting your wishes. And if she ends up injuring herself that could be a problem for you. So she either shuts up and does the physical therapy as she should, or she's out.
