Have you ever refused to give a trick or treater candy because their costume was crap?

A lot of kids put a lot of effort into their costumes. Well, their parents do anyway. But what about the crap costumes that were knocked up in 5 minutes? The bin bag witches, the sheet ghosts, and those who just bought a plastic mask at the cornershop? Do these halfarsed attempts deserve your hard earned candy?

All children deserve candy

I keep a bucket of apples for these kids

I give them toothpaste

I tell them to sod off and try harder next year

I once had a dozen Vietnamese kids ranging in age from about 5 to 14, all wearing track suits, come to my door to Trick Or Treat. They said "we're all Jackie Chan".

This was at least several years after his last Rush Hour movie so he wasn't exactly the biggest star at the time, and these kids definitely weren't Chinese. But their parents probably refused to get them costumes for some tradition they didn't share, and they were just kids, so they all got candy. That said, I told them they needed to do better next year.

LOL NO! It's not about how good their costume is. Maybe they can't afford better. Maybe they made it themselves and it's the best costume ever. It's about running from door to door at night with friends and being greeted by people giving you free candy. It's about all the other kids being excited too. It's about being a part of it.

I don’t even open the door for any trick or treaters. However I remember when I was younger and lived at home two girls around maybe 13 years old came to our house for trick or treat, but they had no costumes at all. My dad told them to come back in costumes if they want candy. They actually did an hour later so he gave them lots of candy.

I haven't had any kids at my house in 5-6 years now. If they came with no costume on I would give them a treat.

No I don’t do that to the kids I always give them many pieces of candy and complement them their costume and they love our pumpkin because we Go to this place they have huge pumpkins. It’s a pumpkin farm that they have delivered to them and these are monster pumpkins very big and heavy. my brother would carve out every year and it takes several candles to light it up

Don’t ever buy pumpkins in a grocery store they might be cheaper, but they are garbage. They don’t last long at all they will break down before you even carve it they’re small and they’re sitting at the grocery store for like 4 weeks before anybody will buy them. We get good discount at the pumpkin farm. It’s actually a church I can get a monster pumpkin for $15.

We are good talkers we know how to negotiate. And we point our flaws on the pumpkin that are true to get it even cheaper. Plus they know us. And they always have like 100 pumpkins left over that. They just throw away anyway because they don’t sell. Americans believe in negotiating bargaining. I don’t know how you guys do things in London.

I drove past a pumpkin farm today with a trailer full of them on show. Looked much better than the supermarket ones. We're too polite to negotiate pumpkin prices, especially if they're only $15, that just doesn't feel right.

I understand but you have to remember. It’s not that we are cheap us Americans but we like bargaining. We do that on many things except for the supermarket because the prices are set and final plus restaurants. Everybody does it when they’re buying a car if not, you can lose your butt big time. The reason the pumpkins were $15 is because we negotiated. I guess you could say it’s fun to negotiate. But we would never take advantage of people.

There’s no way we would take advantage of businesses, but believe me they get there big prices. Anything leftover they just throw it away. Like I told you about the pumpkins

Halloween is not that popular in my country, so I never had any trick or treaters at my door.

Never had to decide I turn the lights off at the front of the house and pretend I'm not in works well for Halloween 😁😁

No, I haven't refused them in the long run, but I have said "Ok, I'll take the trick". If it's just the kids, they look confused. If the parents are with them, they just give me a dirty look. LOL. I solved the whole issue by being totally dark in the house and going to the movies that night. Yeah, I'm a grinch.

My mom would always make sure all the poor kids with shitty costumes got plenty of candy
