Why does my breath smells bad after running?

Funny you should ask that , I was just talking face to face with someone who experienced the same


For what it’s worth , they believed it was something to do with their hiatus hernia at the entrance to their stomach. The hernia apparently means that digesting food in the stomach can actually travel back up the oesophagus with some acid which can cause your breath to smell bad


I have no idea of this is medically correct , just adding for reference.


If I were you and actually concerned then seek advice by at least a telephone appointment with a medical professional

Does it smell like ammonia? That means your body has switched to ketosis (burning fat), because it ran out of sugar/protein.

Depending on the smell there are few possible reasons, but mostly it's reflux of stomach fluid in your esophagus

Maybe it's something you ate. I never experienced that and I'm a runner..

I run a fair bit... I have never heard of this happening before. I would suggest maybe checking with a doctor just to rule out something more sinister.
