They expect employers to create special spaces for them to work. Some do not like loud noises and some need special lighting.

Gen Z is generally more "sensitive" to everything. It's our fault bc we raised them "to have what we didn't have" which was an overdose of compassion. As a result they have ZERO tolerance for honest and direct no-nonsense feedback. Though they're older they're still like a pile of kids who are cranky bc they missed their nap time or didn't get their cookie when they wanted it or want everyone to stop something bc THEY don't like it or "are not comfortable" with the responsibility or the timing or whatever... The air changes directions and many of them will start crying and complaining the universe is unfair.

It's not gender specific... It's not ALL OF Gen Z... But it's common enough that the rest of us just shake our heads and just try to carry on.

It's the reason many of them choose partners from much older generations. (Aha... didn't see that one coming? Gen Z guys think Gen Z gals are nuts... and Gen Z gals think Gen Z guys are lazy and in capable. And both are "twitchy" in a way that previous generations are not.)

Same. But we can't blame it on COVID bc they were like this BEFORE COVID. We can blame parents for pampering the kids WAY too much and training them to disrespect any and all kinds of authority. When kids see parents undermining others they do the same. And when parents hand their kids everything then kids expect to be handed everything in work and in life. And when coaches and other authorities "give everyone a trophy" for doing nothing kids learn they don't have to do anything to get the pretty recognition award.

The term neurodivergent simply means that someone's thinking is not typical. Autism, ADHD, and dyslexia are just a few of many ND types on their respective spectrums. COVID brought a bunch of kids that were almost devoid of any social contact for at least a few years. So, kids who were in their formative years between 2019 and about 2023 are sadly lacking in personal contact. They may or not by on one of the many neurodivergent spectrums, but the ratio of 1 in 5 (20%) would seem to be a bit on the conservative side to me.

Okay so, you may not have gotten the memo as research, understanding, and acceptance increases so does diagnosis.
That weird hyper kid or quiet kid in the back of your class growing might’ve showed signs of neurodivergence however didn’t get diagnosed. That is an example.

So, imagine living in a world that is more accepting, understanding, research driven, etc. and a lot of Gen Z goes to therapy then you see that diagnosis increases.
20% is a minority and yes we should create safe spaces, my school did that and we were accommodating to them. There are even structures in place to do so which is a good thing.

I’ve had Autistic classmates my age throughout Elementary, Middle, and High so of course I believe there to be a high percentage. Not to mention ADHD, OCD, and others that fall in neurodivergence. I grew up with all these aspects.
You’ll even see more YouTube, Social Media Sites, etc. discuss and talk about it more since its more mainstream (like your post is doing).

Students have IEPs to assist them, without those specialty assistance they would fall behind.
Putting students in a quiet environment, read instructions, repeated instructions, and being in a learning environment where they are on the same page helps them.
You might see a waste, but they are happier, more efficient, and more successful.

Not to mention extended deadlines, so they can say the reason they need an extra day or two and the teacher approves. It’s the same dedication and hard work, graded on its own merit however an extra day or two to complete it. That is all.

Neurodivergent is a term that usually applies to autism. Unless someone actually has a diagnosis o autism, which is a viable handicap, neurodivergency does not apply. HowEVER lumped in with autism is ADD, ADHD, cerebal palsy ALSO. So, that number could be almost correct.

I would think that people with these issues might have to attend to themselves at a physical workplace. Wearing noise canceling headgear and using other methods. The entire workplace changing to fit, could be a difficult proposition.

I wouldn't call it a scam because there does exist people with severe mental disorders that make life very hard for them but that's the minority of them. Most of them are basically whiny assholes.

And as much as older generations like to blame younger generations it's the older generation's fault they turned out like this. The older generations were shit at parenting and as such those kids grew up to be now shitty adults and will probably be shitty parents to their new generation of kids.

I think a large number of people have the potential to develop quirks that people might view as a disability or mental illness, but in the past, those people were trained to edit out those quirks through training and adjusted skill mapping, not pursue a lifetime of special courtesy by others for the particular issue they have. I am not saying that it is wrong to seek help, but many people seek aid when they have the ability to fix their quirk without care by others.
