Are people drinking more alcohol?

During Covid the work from home model was more popular and as a result day drinking was a big thing. Alcohol sales boomed. Recently it has been reported that alcohol consumption has declined. I am not sure this is true. I still see crowded bar rooms and people obviously inebriated.

Older people are still engaging in alcohol culture. Younger people are less so. The ones that aren’t self medicating with now legal marijuana might be using prescription drugs, many of which become injurious when combined with alcohol. More yet are abstaining from alcohol because they have observed one or more elders struggling with alcoholism and we have learned a lot about the pitfalls of alcohol abuse in the last couple of generations. The UK is losing pubs because there aren’t enough drinkers to keep them in business.
The alcohol industry is staring down some famine years in the future. I’ll bet anyone a thousand dollars that they repeal the restrictions on advertising alcohol directly to minors and Buttwiper comes out with a bubble gum flavored beer. 😂😂😂😂

I know people in the business... and that's what you hear from them, been hearing from then for the last two decades

people drink less, less people drink... so, drinking has become more expensive and the newer generations are not hooked up into drinking like the older ones either

everything else... depends on what you focus on, your local pub... the cheap generic brands, or production overall, lol

Well, day drinking was bad only bc it was something folks had 24-hr access to! Now it’s a little more mitigated bc we’re all out and about again and the cost of drinks has gone up… but… happy hours last longer. So… possibly more social drinking, yes.

the moonbat state where I live has prohibited Happy Hours and selling beer by the pitcher.

With more people having to report to work 4 days a week, and they can't drink at the office, perhaps that's why alcohol sales are going down.🤷🏼‍♀️

I have a strict limit of one glass of wine a year, and only for weddings, etc.

I'm sure it has declined since the 1960s. Before then, people smoked and drank almost constantly. They always had a drink in their hand.

I have bought a considerable quantity of alcohol over the past year but I drink very little. I just try to have a well stocked bar for guests.

I can't speak for those that are older than me but a lot of people around my age (21) do not seem to be overdoing it. I'm in college and sure there are parties but they are not out of control drunk fests.

My friends and family are drinking about the same as they always have, typically a glass of wine with dinner, and an occasional cocktail.

Alcohol consumption here has been declining for many years, which is a good thing. There is no safe dosage.

how did you know? just last week my dietician told me to switch from beer 5% to wine 10%. a bottle of 5% once a week is 15 gram. but a glass of wine 10% of 240 is 24 gram.
