Was it ignorant to be once told I got lucky it was C-section and not childbirth pain?

Someone actually told me this a long while back. I find this ignorant and nope it's not as easy as that person claims. I was scheduled for a regular birth but had to undergo emergency C-section due to my water breaking and my son (now nearly 16 months old) wasn't even close to coming out.

No, C-section isn't a joke and I don't consider that being lucky. Any time there is a surgery, there are always risks. That's a major surgery where they break 7 layers of skin to get the baby out, then have to stitch all of them back. The recovery time is longer than giving birth. Then comes the pain post surgery because the layers are still very sore and I had to wear pads for nearly 45 days. For me it was the worst physical pain in my life. It was hurting so much to get up from my bed and carry my son for the first time or to even breast feed him in the first month.

The recovery time was painful. In the end, we have to still deal with pain either way just to birth our child, to have our own kids.

Recovery can be horrible with natural birth too. It took me 8 weeks to not be in cruciating pain every time I peed or stood/walked for too long (more than 10-15 minutes). The pain of child birth is different with different births too. One of my births was horribly painful. Screamed, cried, didn’t know what to do with myself, breathing through was a joke (did not work), epidural failes, laughing gas and morphine did nothing. Then I hada birth that I didn’t even know I was really in labor. Felt like braxton hicks and I was chatting with the midwife until it was time to push and that wasn’t that bad either. I’ve also hada birth somewhere inbetween on the painscale (closer to the painful one but not really as extremely painful as that one). So someone who’s given birth and only ever experienced the less painful version can not even imagine how painful it can be and for those people it’s essy to sat people are exaggerating or ”just breath through it”. No.

Yes, c-secrions can of course also have painful and difficult recoveries. I think the person peobably meant the pain during labor itself, and didn’t think of the pain after. But to say natural birth have essier recoveries is wrong. It can be easier (after one of my kids births I felt normal after, could walk around, dance, cross my legs etc the same day) but many times it’s not (with two of them, the painful ones, it took me 6-8 weeks of barely being able to walk/sit/stand or go to the bathroom - I had to pee in the shower for several weeks because it hurt too bad otherwise, I had to use laxatives after having a 3 degree tear because pooping hurt too much etc). I had to visit a physioterpahist regularly for 1 year after giving birth because of the 3rd degree tear (which was operated on for 4 hours a few hours after giving birth). It may have been ignorant of them to say what they did to you, but it’s ignorant of you as well to claim natural has an easier/shorter recovery - it can be but many times it’s not. I know of people who had c-sections and had very little pain and felt fine shortly after, it really goes both ways and is individual and specific to each birth.

That's why I also added an update shortly after posting it, stating that we still have to deal with pain either way. It's painful just to have our own kids, just to bring a child into the world, so much work our body goes and undergoes afterwards.

It's complicated for us for to have a kid. It's either undergoing your experience (even if epidural was successful there is still the soreness down there once the it wears off) or the C-section recovery.

Its terrible someone said that to you. C sections are very painful especially the recovery processes. Its not lucky at all to have one. I've give birth naturally 6 times and i consider myself very lucky that I never had to go through a c section. Thats like my worst nightmare

Either has its' issues. My wife had a C and a V-BAC. She had a hard time with both.
