I'm scared of gaining weight (due to lack of exercise) any ideas on how to not let that happen?
My mum also said not to worry too much as its only two weeks.
guess I'm just paranoid because its my first ever operation ha ha :)
Thankyou again

Trending & News Lack of exercise for 2 weeks is unlikely to cause any significant weight gain. What could cause a problem is over-eating out of boredom. So, make sure you have things to keep you occupied while you recuperate and fill up on vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and fruits. Don't resort to eating candy, ice cream, potato chips, burgers and fries (for example) to "treat" yourself because you are stuck in bed.
I doubt your doctor will allow any type of exercise, even upper body, because often they want you to keep your heart rate reduced to avoid bleeding. I had my nose fixed when I was younger and the advice against exercise was not because I was physically unable to work out, but because your body needs time to heal and avoiding an accelerated heart rate was important. Good luck!
These idiots are telling you not to eat or to eat low calorie food.
DO NOT DO THAT! You need a sufficient amount of calories to heal.
Eat as you normally do. Your body will be expending extra energy to heal.
Weight gain is not as bad as not healing quickly and well.
Sleep more than normal too.
(I'm working towards a cell biology PhD; I know what I'm talking about.)
Make sure to wake up and eat breakfast too
I agree with this
Definitely the best answer ever.
Extra energy to heal? Nonesense, the amount used to heal will be negligible. Give best answer to someone who knows an iota about physiology. Cell biology doesn't tell you anything about energy consumption for healing..OBVIOUSLY. You know waht they say about PhD..a lot about a narrow subject, nothing about normal life experience.
Ha!
And what do you know Dr. Marty?! I didn't mean the energy expended will help lose weight, I meant if she's not eating properly she won't heal as efficiently. You need to eat best in these situations which is why it's so f***ed that the hospitals give out the worst food. (here at least)
QA- no you won't gain a lot of weight! You burn around 1500-1700 in a normal day also. Just take care of yourself. You need to intake 3600 calories more than you burn to gain a pound.
Worst case scenario you gain a pound, maybe two although I really don't think you will.
You're probably going to be on painkillers and antibiotics which might make you nauseous and you may even lose weight.
Eat normally the calories are needed for repair, take lots of Vitamin C too. As for calorie burning see how you feel. Work whatever you can which would mean an upper body workout for you. You may just feel exhausted and find that other than sleeping and eating you don't do much else. Masturbating burns between 100-150 calories per go which can be increased to around 300 for a vigorous session that lasts more than 5 minutes. You know what to do... eat and be merry. Hope it all works out for you.
Ouch, sorry to hear that!
Here's what you want to do:
1. Eat your regular meals and portions, perhaps a little less.
2. Resist to eat compulsively because you might be bored.
3. Try and stay limber by stretching and moving your other leg, plus arms. Keeping limber will help.
4. Don't worry too much, two weeks time isn't enough to pack on the pounds unless you ignore items one and 2.
5. Get well soon! :)
Update: Rest and heal well!
do not do anything that would compromise your recovery such as attempt exercises on the sofa that might disturb the operated foot.
presumably as you move less you would be less hungry so you'll eat naturally a bit less
drink more water esp. as you start the day, to fill your stomach some and to dilute the acid inside of it.
other than that, focus on relaxing and recovering

You shouldn't put on a significant amount in two weeks, but just eat healthy! Avoid fizzy drinks and (too much) chocolate, fast foods etc, all the things you probably already know have a lot of calories.Snack on fruits and carrot sticks and things like that :)
Drink water and eat nothing but salad and fruit! I suppose if you can't walk you could stabilise your foot and do sit ups? On the other hand in two weeks if you eat normally you could burn it off remotely fast depending on your metabolism and diet...
Good luck though!
Eat healthily (though you should do this anyway). For example: fruits, veggies, lean proteins, nuts, etc. Like someone else said, whatever weight you might gain from inactivity will fall away once you become active again. Just don't eat ridiculous amounts of junk food.
not eat too much sugar or chocolate. that's all fat. eat normally you know? fruit, veg, carbohydrates for energy and protein. try not to eat all the time too because you may be tempted to when you have nothing else to do. drink plenty of water also. if you do this there is no way you'll gain weight just like that. simple things like not binge eating all the time will pay off. then after that, and you're on your feet again try excersizing a bit to make up for your time doing nothing :P
hope all goes well :) x
After your surgery you won't be very hungry for a couple days if you're like me. This is my 5th day after my leg surgery and all I've been eating is crackers and oreos, drinking juice boxes because it is hard to get up and move glasses :p You don't have to worry. If anything, I've lost weight, so just try to eat what you normally do. And usually, I eat as much food as a morbidly obese person but I'm still skinny. Just pray to the Metabolism Gods and you'll be fine :D
You might be surprised at how little of an appetite you have when you don't move around at all. just do some ankle/leg exercises. that might help! Don't worry about it though. Just eat when you're hungry. You might be in pain too, which might make you lose your appetite too. but nutrition is so important to heal. you have to eat!
U won't be gaining too much in two weeks
plus with the antibiotics you would be eating to heal you won't be feeling too hungry so don't worry about it
Any weight you could put on in two weeks will fall off practically instantaneously when you start being active again.
Cut out desserts, alcohol, most meat, stick to fruit, yogurt without sweetner, rice and vegetables.
Leg raises, chest press, shoulder press. Plan your meals ahead of time, make sure there are less calories than you are used to. You will lose some muscle mass at the very least.
drink water, not soda or sh*t, it is the weight loss miracle liquid for everyone.
It would be virtually impossible to put on any serious weight in two weeks, if you just eat healthy and not to excess.
If you're really worried, use dumbells and work on your arms.
Two weeks isn't much but harvey is wrong you do need to watch your Callorie intake everyone does. So for two weaks stick to smaller amounts of food(not much smaller) eat chicken over beef or pork for protien and find a way to make your arms active even light liften activity will help. I know from experience that being unable to move is bad, I myself lost 108 lbs to a diet then ended up having sergery I managed to remain the same weight without Gaining
stop whinning, its only 2 weeks. If you're the kind of person who gains weight rapidly just from not excercising for two weeks, then you would be a fat ass right now, pre-operation.
I had a similar thing when I had a leg operation after a motorbike accident. I used a calisthenics routine every day to keep my fitness up. Worked a treat.
you will be OK as long as you eat healthy. rest and relax. take time to recover. make sure you drink a lot of water. steer clear of soda and juice.
2 weeks... you're not gonna gain any significant weight during that time. just don't pig out and don't eat junk food.
-.-
Just make sure to eat healthy and exercise once you're healed, and you should be fine. If it really bothers you, you could always do some of those hand weights while watching tv.
Whatever weight you put on, you'll just lose it once you start back with your normal routine
You may just have to cut calories like eat a lot of fish and salads and drink water...
sit ups. push ups. shadow boxing haha
drink lots of water and chew gum to curb hunger.
just don't eat like a f***ing hippo
