Athletes who have taken Vyvanse (or other stimulants)?

Hey there,

I started taking Vyvanse about a week and a half ago, and for whatever reason I stopped my cardio then as well. Tonight I was trying to play hockey and within about 2 minutes of play my heart rate was through the roof, to the point where I pulled myself out of the game.

Now, I've fractured my arm before and kept playing until my line changed. So I don't quit easily. But my heart was going faster than it ever has tonight. I fully intend to talk to my doctor about it later this week, but has anyone else had something similar happen? If so, what we're the results?

Not an athlete, but I do know from others and with experience on stimulants that YES your heart rate will go up through the roof. For some people with anxiety complications, their perception that they are having an anxiety attack is instinctual and common... it's really just that the increased dopamine levels (particularly with Vyvanse, probably coming in waves) is just an intense rapid onset. I have a friend who is extremely sensitive to medications take Vyvanse and report she had a moment where she "peaked" because it was so intense.

As long as you're not too hard on your heart, you're fine. But be careful because there are many incidences of sudden stroke, heart attack, sudden death... Just monitor yourself and DRINK water as that stuff will give you mad cotton mouth. Watch out for signs of any dehydration-induced delirium.

I used to have that when I was on a very high dose of Adderall. I haven't heard it causes any long term damage but I have heard people say to take it easy on the exercise when you're on amphetamines.
