Why do Asians eat dogs?

I heard that in some Asian countries, it is OK to eat dogs...

why would they do that? Dogs are kept as pets not food. Do they also eat their pets then?

lmao I had to like every comment made. and I can't say it better. people eat cats dogs spiders cows chicken. food is food it you were hungry enough you would eat it too. but its jus how some pple are and not jus asians.

Asia hahaha. (joke) umm I forgot which 1s spacifically but google it. I saw it on history planet. some countries surrounding asia eat spiders. and actually scorpions. they eat them for protein and they are very poor people (usually)

What makes a dog so different from other animals we eat? I know people with chickens, pigs, cows, etc. and they treat them like pets and then eat them.

Yes, it's a centuries long tradition in China, although now that people HAVE dogs as pets more, in an urban setting, this is getting unpopular. In rural areas they were just another form of livestock...

Well according to my Korean mother (asked because I too was curious and disgusted), she told me only hicks out in the country eat dogs (kind of like how some people in the US might eat rabbits and squirrels). A lot of countries feel rabbits are pets actually and do not condone eating them.

Anyway, only certain kinds of dogs are acceptable (I think like 2 breeds?), and most Korean people would not want to eat them.

Well while in China my friend accidentally ate cat and he said he was ashamed but it tasted good, so that's probably why they eat dogs as well.

Anothers cultures norm is anothers crazy. For them its probably more readily available and easier to come by especially if the area is poor

In many cases in underdeveloped areas/nations, people will eat whatever they can. They've got to survive somehow.

According to Wikipedia people eat dogs- not just in Asia either. My friend who is from Vietnam said that it is common more so in the poorer countries.
