To achieve abdominal muscles you need Low body fat % and defined abdominal muscles which you achieve through various exercises.
Worry more about time spent doing cardiovascular activity rather than doing 2 miles as quick as possible shoot for one full hour of cardio at a medium tempo. It will burn off more calories.
Flutter kicks, V sit ups, decline sit ups with medicine ball, Dragon flags, toes to bar, and roll outs are all great exercises. Calesthetic type exercises work best in my opinion.
Pure crunches are very over rated in my opinion as well.

ok I think I maybe able to help you out.
First if want to achieve six pack abs you must work on your diet. Only fish, chicken, meat, fruit, veggies, and whole wheat. stay away from processed garbage.
You must lower your body fat percentage in order for the abs to be visible which is no easy task. Also train your entire core when working out, you don't need to do 1000 crunches a day. Its mostly about diet. Good luck it took me years for mine to begin to show...
definitely get a trainer. they help you create the right exercise program that is good for your body type and challenges you without injuring you. I had back problems and was discouraged about working out and my trainer helped so much. do a lot of crunches and stuff. and yes, that's a healthy amount of weight to lose in one month after starting workouts
just try to find a trainer who will tell you a good workout
