Also, if I'm looking to gain weight and build muscle should I be buying a muscle/weight gainer powder or whey protein?
Thanks.
yes water is wayy better, but since your trying to gain weight either is fine.. buyin a mass gainer isint the best way to go, it has a lot of crap like sugars and unwanted crap.. if you want to gain weight just increase your caloric intake and take two scoops of reg whey protein instead of one,.2 right when you wake up and 2 post workout OR before bed.. just eat heathier opions (and more ) of what you noramly eat (lean meats , healthy fat, carbs, etc )) can i ask what protien you use and your height and weight? :)
I don't use any protein atm. I used to use muscle/weight gainer but I would either need to go to the toilet a little while after or I couldn't eat any meals because I was so full from drinking it. I'm 5'4'' and I weigh about 8.5 stone which is not heavy. I actually have trouble putting on weight.
I've never taken protein shakes before, but I've taken diet shakes.
Here's what milk has that water doesn't have:
- more calories (if you count calories, this may be important for you)
- makes you feel more full
- the diarrhoea is due to the lactose. Drinking large amounts of milk does that to most people.
- milk is also a source of protein. So mixing your protein shake with water may make you consume a little less protein. That's the only difference I can think about.
It depends, are you trying to bulk up or get defined muscles? Personally I take mass gainers because I want to keep putting on weight and muscle. If you drink lean protein shakes you will get a good amt. of protein without the excess calories etc.
Mixing with milk adds calcium, makes you a bit fuller (?), and adds some protein other than that it tastes better with milk. I also add three bannanas for taste lol
Personally, I add milk to my shakes. This adds more protein, casein, and nutrients to the drink. It makes it more like a natural meal. If the milk bothers you that bad, try a different kind of milk. I use whole milk.

I’m with you there, whenever I drink milk with protein powder, I get the shits. I don’t drink protein powder with milk anymore, but I still fart all the time. My farts smell awful when I drink milk but they’re loud and scentless when I don’t. It’s just part of maintaining a healthy diet. People, especially women, fart when they eat healthy. My body passes gas like a well oiled machine, and I fart when I feel the urge. Both mixing methods are roughly as effective as each other.
