Have you ever attempted a makeover in order to potentially increase your chances of getting future dates?

Have you ever tried to give yourself a makeover or done it professionally because you felt however it is you looked just wasn't working? Did to work? Did it not feel like "the real you" anymore and you reverted, or did it work, and you successfully increased your stock, so to speak, in the dating world?

Not a makeover per se. But when i was 20 years old and graduating from college, I had no sense of style or any cares about how I looked. I was just having a good time.

And I'm gonna blame it on boredom mostly. But over time in a professional environment and the social world, I started to care about and actively manage my personal style... clothes, hair, beard, grooming, watch, tie tack, bracelet, etc. It wasn't a single event in time like a makeover so much as a change in focus over time and lots of small decisions. Growing up. Realizing that how we present ourselves matters. Looks matter. Like it. Don't like it. We get judged by everyone we meet.

Disney made this wrong when we were kids.
Taught us moralities through sitcoms and cartoons about a character that changes their appearance and ends up regretting it


The fact is:
If you look homeless or like a shut-in who hasn’t seen the sun in ages you NEED to make a change
There’s nothing fake about taking a shower
Getting a haircut
Shaving or trimming your beard
Getting clothes that flatter your figure and fit well together
Avoid “fashion crimes”


You’re not doing this “to please someone” you’re making a personal change that will make you more pleasing


“Just be yourself” is dog-shit advice if you haven’t been successful in dating so far.


“Work on yourself” is a much better advice to give or get

Generally the idea counterproductive to present yourself as someone who you aren't. Why? Because you will attract people who don't look for you and after your shallow acting portfolio will get depleted people who seemed interested, will abandon you.
I guess this is one of the reason why dating apps don't work as intended, because it's a competition who gets the highest possible amount of interested people and not people who really look for someone like you.

You can have a collegiate essay in your dating profile outlining all the things that make you a great person and completely desirable to whomever you're looking for, but you won't "match" with a single person without a photo.

Oh yep, guilty. I once tried the whole new haircut, new me thing thinking I’d suddenly turn into the main character. Spoiler: it didn’t magically attract dates, but it did make me feel way cooler strutting around like I was in a shampoo commercial.

People don’t wear suits that much anymore unless it’s a special occasion. Unless your job requires it. I wore a suit to Las Vegas airport and people were making comments to me about nobody wear suits anymore

I had to level up my hair cut and wardrobe for work and my girlfriend didn’t like the attention I was getting. But I think people just treat you differently when you’re put together.
It doesn’t really translate to being more attractive.

To me a make over would be changing an entire wardrobe or job and location.
New shirt and pants. Definitely wouldn't wear several styles that have come out within my life time.
