This is the first year I've been alone on Christmas Eve. In the 72 orbits around the sun I've completed, this is indeed a first.
For over 48 years I wrote, choreographed, and led a Christmas program which was at first a gift to my mother for the year after our first Christmas apart. It continued through careers, marriage, widowhood, and old age. We often invited family, friends, fraternal organizations we belonged to. Neighbors often came, bringing cake, cookies, cupcakes and pies. We would have "Fishermen's Stew", a seafood based bunch of fish, shrimp, lobster, and a few vegetables in a rich broth, and often also good chili for those who did not want to eat the fish. It grew, then waned, as age, deaths in the family, drifting away from fraternal organizations, and neighbors going elsewhere and often moving away. It changed when my dad died, and it died when my mom joined him in whatever place it is when we leave this earthly plane.
So this year I was alone. I have a bunch of gifts wrapped which I will give tomorrow, on Christmas Day. A new tradition born, perhaps, from the demise of the old.
Awww yay for new traditions. Happy Holidays!
Usually, I go to my mom's home on Christmas Eve for dinner, and then I go to my church for our Christmas Eve service. I sing in the choir and we have a musical program before the service starts. I usually get home around 1 am. Been doing this routine for the past 20 years.
Oh nice. I was apart of my church choir too
I used to go to church when I could walk in. But due to a bad hip, until I lose some weight, which I'm working at, I need to use a wheelchair, I had a rollator, but the seat was too hard to sit on. And due to the virus, I'm skeptical of that shot, so the church has exempted me from going.
I used to make Christmas cookies on Christmas eve... for myself, lol. But nowadays I'm on such a health kick, I really do nothing special other than watch tv, make sure I have everyone's gifts ready for the following day, and head to bed-
I know; I'm so old and boring, LOL
Sounds good to me lol.
Hiking 😊🥾🚶🏼♀️We visit our friend in the country and go to a nearby forest. Slight steep, wonderful walks after all the Christmas dinners. Genuinely freshens me. It is also a great way to meet up with my friends community where we discuss recent news, let it be good or bad.
@ShaTTeredMasterpeace thanks for MHO 😘💖

We get coffee or hot chocolate and drive around to look at Christmas lights
Church for Christmas Eve.
Dinner and gifts on Christmas Day.
Running a few weeks behind this year.
I will be eating leftover dinner from my sisters Christmas dinner as I watch my usual Christmas movie "A Christmas Carol" starring George C Scott, 1984 made for tv movie, but worthy of being at the movies; great acting, scenery, music, it magically transfers you back to that time like you feel like you're really there. As far as I'm concerned the BEST! Christmas Carol movie of them all; Well, maybe with respect to the modern telling "Its A Wonderful Like" with Jimmy Stewart, which has become a classic in its own right.
When I was a child, every Christmas eve we would all gather in my parents room and sing Christmas songs to attract Santa to our house. The funny thing is, up until a few years ago I thought most families did that but it turns out that was our tradition. I continued it with my children and my children have continued it.
Awwww
We all used to go to my parents place. After my father passed away we started making the rounds of the brothers & sisters. That hasn't happened in 2 years now though.
Sorry to hear that
Now days! Christmas eve at my parents in law and celebrate, then at Christmas day i spend it with my family (we celebrate Christmas day, not eve). Music, presents, laughs and of course food, games, a movie maybe.
I am Italian so it is all about food but now the people closest to me have dietary restrictions so it is just not the same.
Yeah that sucks
1 present in the morning along with Christmas breakfast.
Winter fun outside in the day.
Circulating around us who's that year's santa and gets to hand out the gifts.
The rest of the gifts are not to be opened until after 15:00.
starting a rewatch of the Harry Potter movies, one movie every day.
Great choice!
Used to go to a party held by my grandparents long ago. But they died and so we do t do anything anymore on Christmas eve
