Is it normal for people to take 5+ hours to respond to your text?

I texted two people today, one person with a digital code for an online Christmas gift and another with a thank you for a Christmas gift they got me and now it’s been over 4 hours and they have not responded, most of my friends respond within 3 hours.

Back before text messaging took over the world (it says you’re 36 years old, so surely you remember such a time) - you know, way back when we actually made phone calls - well, it was not abnormal for someone to not return a phone call immediately.
If it’s urgent, call them. Otherwise, chill. If 3 days, go by, text then again or call them.

Seriously…You’re going to fret over 2 hours? Things come up. You’re with family. Something came up or they want to wait til they’re all alone. Who knows, but people have their own lives too.

I don't expect a rapid response to my texts, and people I know don't expect me to make a quick response to their text. I don't carry my phone with me 24 hours a day. Very often, it's sitting on my desk while I'm in another part of the house. I usually check it every couple hours to see if there are any messages, and if there are, that's when I respond.

Sometimes, if I'm busy, it might be the next day before I notice a text, especially if it was sent late in the day.

We live in a world where many people want instant gratification. That's not me. Take as long as you want to respond to a text or email. If it's something important, I might send a follow-up the next day, just to make sure they got it.

It depends on the person. My dad is going to take a full day usually. He works 12 hours a day usually though and sleeps or does roller derby on his days off. So he doesn't usually have time to respond immediately.

Otherwise, no. Everyone else responds quickly.

I rarely check my messages more than twice or thrice a day when I'm busy or simply trying to focus more on my real life, so I believe that's normal unless someone is purposely ignoring texts for hours, which many people do according to my observations (mostly to look busy or smth lol I dont understand that mindset).

Unless you ask something, a text is a statement, no response required. Especially thank you. What do you expect them to respond? You're welcome? What does the world gain from that?

If you asked if someone was busy, a response would be required. Maybe a small wait for checking their diary or a dunno, let you know later.

Also, someone could be busy... driving, sleeping, family, eating, etc.

I honestly hate texting cquse you just end up overthinking it. Calling makes people uncomfortable nowadays but it's just so much more natural. A call is like an hour at the most. Texting is like you're talking to them all day. I don't want to talk to you all day, I've got shit to do

It's normal. I never understood why people pay attention to the reply times so much, I never do... I reply when I want and I am not trying to be rude if I reply a little late sometimes, sometimes we just get busy.

It's not uncommon... If I'm at work I check my phone every 3 hrs when I get a break, but I can't receive phone signal so I only get FB, WA, SC, and the like... Outside of work it depends on what's going on. If I'm busy, or if I have people in the room, or if I'm depressed, it could be hours or even the next day before I respond to a text, longer on certain platforms.

Yes it is. There are people who live demanding lives and jobs. So they don't have the extra free time to respond immediately.

Are you forgetting not everyone is glued to there phones or tablets or smartwatchs. people got lives and more important priorities to tend to and responding to a stupid text quick enough isn't on on the time of there list unless they are belong to this stupid disrespectful generation we have now that are glued to every tech out there.

On Christmas I would expect people to be very busy. So it would be fine if it takes days to reply.

Sometimes I take a whole day to reply back not on purpose tho but usually because I’m busy or I’m at work.

YES, it is. No one is obligated to sit around waiting to dash off a text as soon as they receive one. I frequently desert my phone for hours at a time.

I have friends who can take up to a week to respond. It's just their way to be a bit aloof at times. People should stop fretting over response time on texts.

Most people don't stare at their phone waiting for you to text them so I'm going to say yes. I see you're in your 30s, I'm assuming your adult friends/family have jobs, hobbies, and responsibilities.

Yes. They might be occupied with something or even the phones could be turned off. I, for example, will wait until the next day to reply to a text that is sent late at night given that it is not an emergency.
