I hate the commercial side. Can you imagine muslims letting eid be taken over the way Christmas is? I'm not talking about the radicalised lot that behead cartoonists in Paris here. I'm talking about sincere, devout followers of what they believe is the path to god.

Christmas means something to me beyond cards, turkey and brussels sprouts.
It's the day I remember that MY God chose to be born in human form for the express purpose of allowing Himself to be beaten, whipped, crucified so that by His death I can have a relationship with Him in eternity.
So no, I don't hate Christmas. I hate what the world has turned it into.
Would it embarrass you to learn that your god DIDN’T choose to come to earth on that day? The vast majority of theologian experts agree Jesus of Nazareth was born in the spring. There are a couple of commonly accepted explanations as to why December 25 was chosen for the holiday, but his actual birthday AIN’T one.
Indeed it would. I AM embarrassed at my own failure to properly read and comprehend. However, ignorance is no excuse, and willful ignorance is worse. You COULD choose to observe a proper, more accurate date for the holiday. You, and “millions of other believers” are lying to yourselves and others. Isn’t lying a sin in Christianity? How does that choice sit with you?
How am I lying to myself? I don't claim the date is historically accurate, only that it's the date we CHOOSE to remember Jesus's birth.
Since we don't have the exact calendar date of His birth - partly because of changes in how the date is recorded by the Roman Empire, the Jewish calendar and the modern world, partly because the practicalities of "moving" Christmas would cause other issues such as the potential clash with Easter, but mostly because the date chosen was symbolic - on or around the shortest day, a day where light was itself seemingly in short supply, the Light of the World would be remembered.
So since my remembering THAT Jesus was born - a historical fact testified to in both biblical and non-Christian documents providing more primary source (eye witness) evidence of His physical existence than there is for some Roman Emperors, Egyptian Pharoahs, and many other "noted" historical figures - rather than WHEN He was born in terms of the literal calendar date, something that is actually of far more significance, there is no Bearing of False Witness - the sin you accuse me of - as my Witness is that Jesus Christ was born in human form, not that He was born on a specific date.
While I personally sin every day I make no claim to be perfect - only forgiven. I am "sinless" only insofar as I am hidden in Christ. His sacrifice made for me on the Cross cleanses me of my sin and all unrighteousness, replacing the filthy rags of my own righteousness with the spotless robes of Christ Himself.
